I just figured what "agi" might mean. Is it possible that she is saying "happy"? Babies sometimes sub in hard g for p or b in the middle of words. If she doesn't seem to be referring to some thing in particular, she might be describing how she feels, "happy, happy" is something people do say to babi...

UnderINK, I've read in several places that "no speech delay" in the context of Aspergers is taken to mean used 1 - 3 words at age 2 years. In comparison with typical development, that's a big delay, but I guess they are thinking in comparison with classic autism. What's her babbling like? From your ...

Maybe you were really upset by the movie and just did not know? I say that because I have this problem so badly, I hardly speak to anyone outside of a formal situation such as work. I also have the problem that it takes me a long time to work out how I feel, and I think that maybe my face reflects m...

Apparently I have a very acute sense of smell. Twice I stopped smouldering fires in buildings by smelling them, when other people around me could not smell them. Both times, those people agreed to come and help me look for the fire saying "you can smell anything, so I believe there is a fire somewhe...

My house is quite clean, it's just a mess, heaps of clothes, toys, books and papers everywhere. I dust with a feather duster or a damp cloth and vacuum regularly. I try to do it often enough so I will never see the dirt. The one thing that has helped me is FlyLady. She has a website and a mailing li...

"Be yourself" is something people say if you express any anxiety about how to behave in a social situation, and also if they think you are putting on any kind of act. Unfortunately it absolutely does not mean "be your authentic self". The best thing to do is to look around at the other people, look ...

I don't see the point in going through an upsetting process of proving to one or more complete strangers how woefully inept I am. I wouldn't get any support or help as a result, and I do think there is an awful stigma attached to it. It would be like going to the doctor and owning up to being severe...

This is an interesting topic. Were you commissioned to produce the video for an event? I think the whole thing of anorexia and ASDs is so important andd this makes the big points very well. It's a big problem that ASDs are underdiagnosed in girls and you make the connection and show how it can lead ...

I loved this test. I can't remember what I scored, but it was high within normal, and I was so pleased, because I feel like I can read the mind in the eyes. I just looked at it again to try to figure out how I was doing it and realised - this is weird - that when I see the eyes I'm really confident ...

Hi BrooxBroox and another welcome. This is a really interesting thread. What if what happened is that, because you read about autism and understood what was going on in your head, and having a lot of intellectual ability you were able to deal with the autism so well that you can pass for normal? I r...

I would be interested to know any answers to this one too! I've just started doing some teaching practice and can see this happening. The school where I am working there are a number of Aspergers boys, so none would really stand out. I don't often watch films myself so don't know most of them. For s...

Can't see the need for them. Tee-shirts or vests with built in support are much more comfy.

grooming/hygiene - yes yes, especially how to stay looking groomed through the day, it's that executive function stuff. And how to organise for Aunt Flo's visits. fashion/language - I think this is definitely two separate sections, although I can see that it would be useful to have something on fash...

Always used to wear dark glasses, otherwise I had to screw my face up really hard to see, especially on bright overcast days. (If you don't get those days where you are, it's when the sky is covered with white cloud, but the light is really bright and diffuse.) In those days I got more comments abou...

Then I'd love to at least try it. I don't understand anyone who doesn't want to change or enjoys the problems associated with being autistic, not including the assets of course like talents, special interests and focus. That's the bad news. I'm sure I read that the oxytocin did seem to move people ...
