I'm 64. Five years ago I retired from the rat race, moved fulltime into the 20-foot travel trailer I'd originally bought just for weekends, and hit the highway. I wander the Western states as my whim dictates. Sometimes I'll stay in one place a couple of months, sometimes just a day or two. Living t...

Facing up to the realization that you're in the home stretch can be disconcerting. But on the positive side of "being in the home stretch," I now have an excuse for planning a seven-week-long road trip this fall, which I have been dreaming about for ages. One large loop around most of the US, about...

Unfortunately it's more complicated than that. It's likely that most people who don't have your problem also don't understand your problem because they never really had to face it in the same way you do. Then you'll end up with advice like "just be yourself" and "it'll get better over time". You ca...

Wow. Where did that come from? Do you like to twist everybody's words just to be confrontational?

There was a valid point in there. Too bad you didn't get it.

I hardly see what your situation has to do with "gender equality". You're saying that because of one twisted person, who happens to be female, we should roll back all the societal and legal advances made over the past several decades in the name of protecting the rights of half the population of the...

As I read the responses in this thread, I am prompted again to ask ... "why would you go for life advice to the very people who have the same problem you do?" Perhaps this is one characteristic of Asperger's that doesn't get nearly enough press ... holding an utterly unrealistic view of how best to ...

Excellent topic. I'm 64, and I was just wondering to myself this morning which is a bigger burden ... being an aspie or being old? Facing up to the realization that you're in the home stretch can be disconcerting. That damned Reaper is a heartless bastard, and I'm hearing his footsteps in the distan...

I am a very angry man and if I do not find some way of healthily processing my feelings I believe I will explode. I feel like a time bomb. I have nothing positive to say, nothing positive to think. I for one will certainly not say that your anger isn't justified. You were mistreated and misundersto...

(I still like what McNamara is reported to have said, upon becoming SecDef and getting his first briefing on MAD: "You don't have a war plan here, General! What you have is some kind of horrible spasm!") Interesting man, McNamara. From his obituary in "The Economist" ... He was haunted by the thoug...

If the bear went after his pigs (which I believe I read in my short skim of the article) then he was perfectly in the right to shoot it. Sure, there was probably a better way to handle the situation, but we don't always think of those better ways in time. The key word being "if". I will say it one ...

I'm pretty Liberal, but I live in an area with bears, they ate all my raspberries one night. It looked like someone drove a four-wheeler thru the patch.I'm not going to shoot a bear over berries, but if they are trying to kill livestock the farmer really has no choice. You can trap and relocate but who ...

That is not a predictable assessment to make about them. Having a mother with cubs or attacking farm animals are both causes for alarm, and both those happened. Since bears remember food sources, they were going to be a problem again. It is predictable. I point out again that griz are extremely shy...

I find it doubtful that the Soviet commander could have used tactical nuclear weapons on his own authority and I question the notion that if he had done so, that would have escalated into a full scale nuclear war. It might have done so, but I don't see it as the most likely outcome. Your doubt, whi...

You need to be careful not to interject political beliefs into a situation where politics aren't relevant. Like natural phenomena, for instance. Nature doesn't care about your politics. This bear is indifferent to your stand on gun control or whatever. All else being equal, griz are shy and elusive ...
