I would have to disagree with the SSRI suggestion. SSRI's have been known (anecdotally) to increase one's urge to drink.

I have curly shoulder-length hair when wet, with shorter bangs, and I part it down the middle. I pretty much don't shave. Once in a while when I get really, uh, happy, I'll shave my beard off. I don't touch it again usually for another 4 months or so. There seems to be something really deep about th...

This is the first post I've seen on this forum that made me crack up. Well done. Thanks. I almost posted it the way it was, and then I thought up the last two words, and well, like you said, that just made it. Agreed. Typical nerd humor. Nerd, please! Though either way, maybe if you learned to shoo...

Hah, this just happened a few days ago. My brother said to the other person in the conversation, who shall remain nameless, that their "breath smells pungent". I think he'd just smoked a cigar or something. Anyway. I'm like, "That was wrong, you're looking for the adverbial form." My brother denies ...

I used to get called the N-word all the time in school. Today somebody did it again and it brought up a lot of painful memories. There is no excuse for this. I know I'm not the same as most people, and I'm reminded of that fact every single day . Just because I'm different doesn't mean I deserve to ...

I think it boils down to bell curves. We, as mentally-ill individuals (I mean that endearingly), deviate from the mean, the average. It's only natural that we often have deviant IQ's to match our deviant cognition and behavior. 1. We tend to be more analytical 2. We tend to be less social, so more t...

Holy crap, the first song I found on YouTube of Massive Attack was Teardrop, the intro theme of House MD. Sweet.

I wrote- er, typed- this up bout five months ago shortly after my diagnosis. I think it's inspired by the fact that for all the problems associated with low self-esteem and abulia (inability to make a decision), there are also positives. It's definitely a rant, hopefully spiced up with some humor ju...

What a tragedy mainstream rap is. For thousands of years poetry has been stuck in the written form. Clearly though, poetry is meant to be spoken. The meter, the rhythm of any given poem, is expressed so much better when spoken from the mouth of the poet. If you think about it, rap was an inevitable ...

You can get just as messed up if you're not diagnosed for too long. It's blatantly obvious that I've got some developmental delays, real stuff, but that's only in hindsight. In the meantime I've missed out on so many opportunities just because I slipped through the cracks. My parents did the opposit...

Metaphysics, philosophy, psychology and astrophysics are great but I don't have enough formal knowledge to be considered a nerd. I would fall under the definition if you were to ask if I "nerd out" over those topics. Lately I'm a bit of an italics nerd. Mainly though: a drug nerd. Or, to put it in m...

Yeah, my dad has a habit of not shutting the $#@ up . He's constantly got verbal diarrhea and looking for someone to s**t on. The worst part is that when I try to finish one of his slow-motion rambling sentences for him, he'll ignore me and say it the way he wanted to say it, even though I knew exac...

Me. I've been making weird noises with my mouth since I was a child. I've always had a huge problem with attention, or, to use the vernacular, I'm "ADD as s**t". I never did learn an instrument, and I can't stay on rhythm for very long when beatboxing free-form; I tend to syncopate and change tempo ...

I suppose my biggest problem with psychologists (and moreso with psychiatrists) is about limitations of knowledge. A psych doc has all this knowledge and training to start off with, and then tries to bring your mind into that paradigm. No matter what they do, they can't actually get inside my mind.O...
