ToKatzfraut and others. I have read the posts with interest as I am the op of what may be considered harsh posts. I said that I don't think people with the classic symptoms of aspies should have children. I will temper what I said after reading some of the replies. It seems that people with aspie ha... |

There is currently little research on AS as it is being described in this thread. Once there is more, it will likely be the case that all the skills and strengths of those with AS are despite the AS not because of it. So, there is no reason to believe that anyone with AS would be better than or wors... |

Too bad for any homeschool kids with Aspie parents. Those kids really need to be in school to learn appropriate social behavior-to learn to fit in and to learn to be a leader and to learn to learn and get along with peers. Goodness, especially for your typical kids, let them have friends! |

Nope, I am guessing that you don't hang with kids much. They are not in a hurry to grow up and the last thing they want is to be like you! Kids want to establish themselves as different from the stodgy backwards adults in the world and they want to establish themselves as part of the cool group of k... |

I always love the reference to Einstein. Its like saying being overweight is not a problem because Luciano Pavarotti was overweight. Pavarotti was an opera star despite (not because of) being overweight and Einstein was a genus despite having (not because he had) AS! According to Gillberg's criteria... |

Guessing by telegraphing your scores you are looking for something and I am guessing you understand what you were told but want to publicize for some other reason but can't say why. IQ A FullScale score of 100 would get you enough brain power to interpret the scores so guessing you are looking for s... |

Lots of misinformation here! yes, many people are born shy. Gosh there is so much research on this topic that it is astounding for anyone to claim otherwise! It is probably the most inherent characteristic possible. Wake up! Take a read--as an AS you probably advocate reading over tv and other frivo... |

Routines are not the most compelling aspect of Gillberg's criteria for AS and that criteria will most likely evolve as The criteria for a disorder that is not simply Autism without language deficit but a distinct disorder that is very heritable and that characterizes most people on this forum. Socia... |

This is an interesting thread. I stand by what I said in earlier posts and I am pretty certain that parents who are insensitive to their children's needs should not have children. Children need parents who are sensitive to their needs. It just basic. The fundamental task of a parent. End of story. T... |

No I am not advocating the things proposed by those who wrote the posts above. I am suggesting that people who have the hallmark symptoms of AS should probably not have children. If you don't have those symptoms, than it is a moot point. If you are can not take the perspective of another (your child... |

Adults with Aspergers should get pets and not have children. After thinking about my own parents and about the inherent weaknesses that are part of the diagnosis (and if you don't have them, you don't have the disorder), people with Asperger's are poorly suited to be parents. Of course, there are pl... |

Sorry. Left this impt stuff out. For most tests, the score for the individual is compared to those of a standardization sample-to yield standardized scores. For most tests, an IQ of 100 +/- 15 (1SD) is within the average range. So, those who score 85-115 are considered to be of average intellect. |

There is some inaccurate information here. An IQ score reflects performance on a specific test. The most common individually administered tests are quite reliable and valid for typical purposes. Different tests will yield different scores for the same individual although among the best known tests, ... |

I am what is being called NT but raised by Aspies. Absolutely the only way I learned anything about the warm supportive loving aspects of being part of a family and society was by going to school and when old enough, babysitting. Maybe it would have been less painful to have been homeschooled cause ... |

Was raised by a parent with Aspergers but don't have it. Maybe someone on this forum could explain better. I've struggled with very mixed feelings about my mother. She wasn't blatantly mean but the things she did made life impossible. The diagnosis makes things clearer. Not blaming her for any aspec... |
