Well I guess this could be my last post here. Ive been talking to an expert about this and according to him i probably dont have AS, i just have 'Avoidant Personality'. It always bothered me that I fit so many of the 'minor' AS traits but none of the major ones (theory of mind, sensory issues, repet... |

A lot of what you said sounds similar to me. I was diagnosed at 14 but i often have doubts. Id be mild at worst and IF you have it you sound like you're 'mild at worst' too A lot of those traits you mentioned like being a perfectionist and being rational are just your personality type. I think these... |

Id LIKE to have children but probably wont. I can even imagine being married at the moment. ive got this feeling it wont happen. Plus i still dont know if i really have AS or not but i do know its highly genetic and i dont want to force it onto someone else, especially my own child. |

I guess at times I have jealousy. :-( I have a friend in College and when I think of her I think of her in Kindergarden and us seeing movies together and we'd play with action figures. She has "grown up" I haven't :-( My mom is fixing to change jobs perhaps and my sister is married with a husband/c... |

They have a point. Kids reciting stuff like this shouldnt be too important cos they dont know what it means and theyre not choosing to do it, theyre being forced to. Doesnt that defeat the purpose a bit? We had something like this where we had to salute the flag and saying something about the queen ... |

Heres a nice list of 80 bad features in adults, well, mostly bad ones... http://www.aspires-relationships.com/articles_adult_version_austrailian_scale_for_as.htm Why do people think their skills are always directly related to their condition? I have talent in areas like drawing/writing but take the ... |

Just do a search for webpages on it. Youll find a pretty hefty list of disabling features.
For me the few good parts about it are outweighed by the complete lack of motivation and future. |

I have something i call the 'party of five' rule, (yeah lame name i know!) but that means ill go to a party as long as theres at least five people i know there which makes it more likely ill have people to talk to. People might get more points if i know they dont know anyone either or if they are re... |

I hate it. Cure me please. The thing is, I know people who are interesting, creative, intelligent and have a unique viewpoint outside of mainstream society who are NOT autistic. They have social and emotional competence and are not plagued by sensory issues. Being neurotypical does not automaticall... |

I think i managed to avoid a few potential bullying situations at school by acting up in class and being nasty to the teachers. Some kids seem to respect that. But thats not really a good option for your son since hes getting good marks. Just throwing it out there. |

I dont think people TREAT you differently if you have a condition, but they will THINK about you differently, something you dont want, because if you do have AS you wont be able to tell this. Also, AS has some pretty bad stigmas attached to it. Unless you can explain it really well, i wouldnt even t... |

Yeah the criteria is bogus. According to my parents i never had a narrow interest, or anything else in part 2 of the DSM criteria for that matter. But that also sucks for me cos the ability to focus on that narrow interest can provide some kind of meaning in life or employment in that field, etc. “A... |

Yep, i can identify with that. I got very self conscious about it. I avoided things i felt i shouldnt be doing. Some of this stuff when i look back at it is stuff i should have done anyway. I didnt talk to people about certain things because in my mind i was thinking its what 'they' do. I avoided an... |
