I generally find those things really uncomfortable but I wasn't when I started dating my boyfriend. Before we were really "officially" dating we went to a burlesque show and he put an arm around me. I flinched like normal but I was surprised how okay I was with it when he asked me if I minded. The p...

I say let her sit but make her do some other kind of work during gym, maybe working on something that is difficult for her (math, reading, etc). That way she won't have to do gym which is useless and damaging for many children (because in P.E. every game is "throw the ball at the autistic kid"), but...

I HATE velvet. Suede, too. I can't stand how it feels on my skin.

I don't like my hands being dirty. I don't like loud bass, although loud music otherwise is fine. Hate bright lights, especially flashing ones. Alarms drive me insane. And chalk is pretty bad too.

It sounds like he kind of has a point. I would try to work on it, but make sure he knows it's a work in progress and you can't immediately shift to doing it his way. I'm assuming he knows you have an ASD, so I think if you show you're making an effort or compromising, he will work with you. I have a...

Do you live in St. Louis? I think I had that exact same shrink. Haha, mine was in St. Charles, MO. Actually this one might have been in St. Charles. I live on the Illinois side and I know we had to drive for-flipping-ever to get there. I couldn't drive back then; I was 15 or so, and I didn't...

I am with you on that. There's this kid in my Historical Inquiry class who sleeps every day. It's a class full of only history majors! It pisses me off that he's just skating by. My favorite professor is a Korean man who teaches European history and he is the best lecturer I have ever known. He has ...

History is really important. Of course I am a history major so I also think it's awesome, but historical instruction in today's schools is terrible. It's amazing when people get to college and learn real history instead of "Marie Antoinette said 'Let them eat cake!' because she was evil and it's goo...

I don't understand. What exactly are you lying about? People lie every day. At least once per conversation. It is normal. Lying a lot is bad. But what's more worrying than that is that you're so worried about being as good as other people. Try to make yourself happy and don't compare yourself to any...

Yes.

This makes me sad. I enjoy your posts and I want you to stay. I'm not into the Kinks but it's your thing and that's cool so I think you should post whatever you want.

My boyfriend and I usually go to this bar every Sunday night. It's not too loud and we know the bartender so a lot of our friends go there. I can just relax and drink a little and play silly board games with people. One time we went bar-hopping and one of the places we went to was another club that ...

More than anyone else, your daughter needs to know. Because when she is on play dates with those friends and she knows there is something wrong and she doesn't know what or why she is different from other people, she is going to be sad. She is going to blame herself. She is going to go through what ...

The Millennium Series by Stieg Larsson is really good. They are set in Sweden and the main character is this really awesome girl. They never clearly specify whether she is autistic, but she has a lot of the traits and Asperger's is mentioned as a possibility several times. The books are: 1. The Girl...

Make a fuss. The school and the teacher are being unfair. I would recommend sending her a copy of this. http://www.southflorida.com/sfparenting/sfe-sfp-autism,0,6196233.story It outlines the way autistic children see the world very well. Good luck with everything. Schools suck and it's cheaper for t...
