It's not a clinical term; it doesn't have a definition. Actually, to quote the Wikipedia article you just linked: When I say it is a clinical term, I mean that it is used in clinical settings - many doctors use it to help their patients understand where they are on the spectrum. Many researchers al...

It definitely sounds like he has some aspie traits. I have many aspie traits, but I'm not on the spectrum. If these traits are effecting his schooling, as the teacher appears to think they might?, an evaluation might be useful. You mentioned he witnessed something very bad a few years ago, if this w...

"Autism" or "Aperger's Syndrome" is the official diagnosis (for now), there is no entry in the DSM called "High Functioning Autism". However, "high functioning" is a clinical term, commonly used, to describe those at the milder end of the autism spectrum. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-functionin...

It's common for folks on the spectrum to feel like the other gender from time to time, so you're not alone, and like you say it's not always a transgender thing. Society has defined what is an "ideal man" and an "ideal woman" in very narrow terms. The consequence of this for Aspie men and women is t...

I hate to break people up here and derail a theory. Cobain did not have AS, he was bipolar. I have briefly discussed this with people who were in his circle of friends in Olympia, WA. There are a few other people mentioned here that are mentioned that I KNOW are not on the spectrum (Jack White and ...

Hilarious! I'm NT - but that term doesn't apply so well because I have many Aspie traits and are far from typical! Your score: 72 Your condition: no signs of NTS Congratulations! You do not suffer from NTS. You are free to think on your own, maintain an objective view of things and pursue your inter...

I'm NT and I find online communication difficult because there's no body language to read! Without facial expressions, body gestures and tone of voice to "observe I find interpreting online messages more difficult. It's also more difficult to express myself online because I can only do it with text.

Another question I have is this. Whenever another kid's mother scolds them, my son gets upset like it is him who is getting into trouble. I try to tell him that he is not in trouble, but he cries anyway. As for why your son gets upset when other people are scolded, its because he has sympathy for t...

My Daughter is 9 years old. I might wait until she is older to tell her about her father. I do not know where he father is at this moment. I haven't heard from him in about 10 years. Hi Scooter, It's a tough one! I think it's a good idea to give her information that is appropriate to her age, howev...

Hi WhittenKitten, there could be lots of different reasons for the bleeding, you should definitely get it checked out and it's great you have an appointment. It's quite possible the Dr will be able to make an assessment and try a course of treatment without an invasive examination, but I imagine the...

Here's my question: Why does he sometimes answer me when I ask him a question (like asking which cup he wants or where his favorite toy is at bedtime, where theoretically giving me an answer is in his best interest), and sometime ignore me or push me away, and sometimes just echo back what I just s...

I love The Kinks! But, sadly, not everybody does.

Perhaps you could start a Kinks appreciation thread in an appropriate area of the forum?

Hi Rosiemaphone,
There is a significant overlap between the experience of being an introvert and having AS. Perhaps the introverted aspects of AS are the parts you relate to?

Hi Einschmidt, you might like to consider talking to someone about it. Sounds like it has a compulsive element to it? Sometimes I unplug my computer from the internet when I feel the urge to procrastinate. Perhaps you could try doing the same thing when this feeling strikes and plug back in when the...

LOL!

Shrink is usually used to refer to a psychiatrist (rather than a psychologist - there's a difference!). Not sure of the origin of the term.
