Hello all, It has been some time since my last post here, but I need the collective wisdom of the community. I started a new job a few months ago, and despite the fact that I'm overqualified and it requires a lot of talking on the phone (historically not one of my strengths), it is related to one of...

I had a really bad meltdown yesterday. It was the worst one I'd had in years, and it was very different from my normal meltdowns. Generally, when I have a meltdown, I shout and scream and lose control. Yesterday's event was more like a shutdown. I found myself curled up on a couch, eyes covered, una...

Like many people here, I can sometimes prevent one if I feel it coming on, but once it's started, it needs to run its course.

I guess I should have posted this topic months ago. As it turns out, I was too late. I was let go yesterday. I'm trying to take it as best I can. I'm even going to a recruitment event later today. Wish me luck.

Is part of the problem is not being focused on the immediate task you have to complete? If so, possibly try consciously micro-managing yourself by setting mini-goals: "for the next five minutes I will focus on/do this and nothing else". I had similar problems because I have quite a busy brain and t...

Dentists hate me. I have a terrible, uncontrollable gag reflex, and I have bitten every single dentist who has ever worked in my mouth. I usually only go to the dentist when I have a serious toothache and need to have work done. I have had some pretty serious oral surgery in the last few years, and ...

For the last 8 months, I've been working part-time at a job. In many ways, it's ideal: flexible hours, good co-workers, a great boss, a large degree of independence, and I actually find the work pretty interesting (most of the time.) However, I feel like I've not been doing well the last few months,...

I hate text messages and try to avoid them whenever possible. I'm more likely to reply to a text with a phone call or email.

I am NT and I do agree with Janissy, still what I find really hard is to understand Aspies who for whatever reason (e.g. they are not ready to open up about themselves) act like NT, it is really confusing to me and i always wonder : should I relate to their ND core or to their NT wise behaviour? I ...

I don't live in NYC, but I've spent some time there, and I love it. I really like big cities in general. I do have sensory issues, but somehow the typical big city atmosphere doesn't bother me. I tend to freak out in large, open spaces like fields and large parking lots, rather than in crowds and co...

I'm NLD and intensely verbally-focused. I do not think in pictures readily - mostly words and sounds with some vague images, as someone else described. As far as how I daydream, I do so constantly. It's just probably not as visual or image-based as it is for many people. Some above have tried to dra...

Like many people, I am still recovering from public school, even though it's been 20 years since I last attended a public school. Private school (non-special ed) my last two years of high school probably saved me. I was not diagnosed as a child and teachers thought I was lazy, disinterested, irrespo...

I had terrible right/left confusion as a kid. I'm sure it's related to my general problems with spatial/visual perception. My right/left confusion was so bad that my teachers thought I was dyslexic because I couldn't distinguish between letters like b and d, which made writing almost impossible. (Th...

There is nothing in the world that I hate as much as condescension. I even seem to find it where I've been told it doesn't exist (overly friendly salespeople, etc.)

I think diagnoses at younger ages are more common now than in previous years. I was 33 before I got a diagnosis, because no one in the US knew what Asperger's was 25 years ago, and I didn't have the traits of classic autism. Now, I think someone like me would be diagnosed by the teenage years at the...
