I don't understand the post before the previous one. Which part? I did jump around a bit in that post. 1. I was surprised we had so many WPers click "full-time" in the roughly 7 hours the thread has been on WP. First of all become many of our posters are un/underemployed, and second because most of...

I guess my advice to you, since you seem so concerned about burglar safety, is not to bust into an American home.

Indeed, gun ownership here may have something to do with why the U.S. violent crime rate is only about 1/5 that of the UK.

This poll was based on something that happend here this morning. I took the dog out to pee first and that's when the choppers started getting closer. There were cop cars aggressively cruising around and a few distant sirens getting closer. They didn't not stop and say anything but I put 2 + 2 toget...

The goal is ALL guns. Just because they screech about "assault weapons" now that's not the end of it. I agree with you there. I'm just pointing out that an "assault weapon" ban is a stupid solution, given that Connecticut had one and it didn't prevent the shooting. The right way to go is to get rid...

If you knew anything about guns you'd know that some semiauto handguns have hammers. Lots of people don't know anything about guns. At least he asked the question so he could find out the answer. Now he's one step closer to understanding why the whole "assault weapon ban" is just idiotic political ...

But, Ruveyn, the press says that she used a tiny gun! That wasn't even semi-automatic! It's obviously a liberal conspiracy to cover up her death, because no dinky girl gun could possibly be adequate for home defense. It had an evil high capacity magazine, though. And actually, it was semiautomatic....

Actually Connecticut already has an assault weapon ban as well.

And the official story right now is that the kids were killed by a .22 caliber rifle, which evidently wasn't an "assault weapon" under Connecticut law.

My thought, in a world where warfare keeps getting less conventional every year, why not just invest more in special forces and intelligence? Have fewer but better trained troops with better tech? The military actually has been doing this. Rumsfeld was all about doing more with fewer people. It's m...

How would you feel if China put bases in America, you know, to protect the world from anti-Chinese interests? I notice your map shows that we don't have any bases in China. Most of the bases are in countries that invited us in. That doesn't mean they're a good idea, but they aren't nearly as much o...

If so, how did it manage to shrink from 10% of GDP in 1960 to 5% now, when th federal government as a whole was growing?

psychohist, I would love to see you add to the list. You seem to come from a libertarian perspective which usually disagree with on everything. I would love to see if there is anything else we agree on. Add things that I think everyone will agree on? I'm not sure I can think of any. Right now, I'm ...

"4) We need laws to enforce racial equality." Disagree. Market forces are sufficient in the absence of laws that actively enforce racial inequality. If the law doesn't require a separate lunch counter for blacks, the guy who runs one lunch counter will make more money and the guy who enforces segreg...
