I'm an Aspie who has an Arts degree and came top of the class in English (language and literature) at high school. I liked reading Jane Austen novels (I am a male, by the way) and Shakespeare's plays, and indeed like reading all sorts of things - classic English novels, linguistics, philosophy, psy...

I was 56 when I was diagnosed with AS. Bear in mind I was about 40 when AS was added to the DSM, and 26 when "infantile autism" was officially added to DSM in its own right (previously it had been a variant form of "childhood schizophrenia"). So I was never going to be diagnosed ...

I took myself off to a clinical psychologist who specialises in ASD. I didn't have a referral from my doctor, so I didn't claim it on health insurance. I did a questionaire/test that he sent, had a two hour interview (life story etc), then my partner did the same questionnaire (but about me, not abo...

I am listening to the sound of the fan inside my PC and the muffled sound of the TV in the room next to mine - and the occasional car passing our house (quiet main street).

What about: Stim and Kaleidoscope?

The author (Kevin Berry) is on the spectrum.

Not sure how many sales are required to become a "best seller", but I bought and read them both.

I always eat my foods in specific order - my least favorite, all the way up to my favorite food last. It's the only logical way to eat. I am nearing retirement age, and I have been eating that way all my life. If you start with the food you like the least, and work your way up to your favourite foo...

Misophonia? Yes, it sounds very much like misophonia. People with misophonia react to very specific sounds, and each person can be different in what sound or sounds "trigger" them. A fork scraping on a plate would be quite a plausible trigger for some people with misophonia. In addition t...

The real problem though is getting visibility within the "Aspie community" - marketing it to people who could use it. Yes - it is a circular problem. The people who are isolated, who most need such a network, cannot be easily identified and contacted to join one. I was able to connect up ...

Hi all, I'm an aspie from Sydney. I have been lurking on WP for quite a while. I am currently feeling a bit lonely as my social life generally revolves around Facebook and the group I hang out in on there has become painfully toxic. I am thus in the process of trying to form some new social connect...

I forgot to mention I used to do machine code on the Z80. On my bookshelf I still have the book "Programming the Z80" by Rodney Zaks, with long descriptions of the Z80 instruction set. Mind you, I didn't get very far with machine code on the Z80, but I definitely understand the attraction.

One-A-N, like your Tux avatar. Went through quite few Linux variations for my webservers before settling on CentOS. CentOS is a community distribution of RHEL - Red Hat Enterprise Linux. It is so incredibly stable, secure and free. I am familiar with CentOS - at least at second hand. I started with...

You both sound slightly more hardcore than me, but I could follow all the details. I don't do Cobol, but can (or could once) write simple Fortran IV code. I learned Basic on an Apple IIe and slowly added more languages - C especially (without the plus signs for a long time), but even PL/1 (well, it ...
