I use public transit out of necessity, because I don't have a car, and because taxis are relatively expensive. I also like to bike, but biking does not have a very great range. But I do like rail transit, and I've long had an interest in that. Buses I don't like as much, because they are slow and of...

I noticed it rather quickly also; it is Simon Baron-Cohen's Autism Quotient test. But here is a site with not only that test, but some more of his tests; they reside in pages that will never time out on you. Autism/Asperger-Related Tests AQ: Autism Quotient How close to autistic are you? Max: 50 (st...

While we're at it, some more about the Standard Model of particle physics. It is predicted to have an additional particle, a "Higgs particle", with spin 0 and charge 0. This particle has the interesting property that its least energertic state is to have some nonzero value; the Universe is filled wi...

I've never seen that particular one, but I have seen ones where you try to click on something moving or throw some ball or whatever -- and that take over Firefox. Is that a way of getting attention to that ad, by bogging down the browser if you don't do what's in it?

He might not be NT but instead have inverse Asperger's Syndrome, as I call it, something I had posted on in this thread -- someone who is very social but who is very incompetent in technical sorts of things.

I'm familiar with some of the mathematics behind string theory, and behind elementary particle physics in general, so I'll chime in here. It's a proposed "Theory of Everything", a physical theory that incorporates the existing fundamental theories -- gravity and the Standard Model. Gravity is descri...

I think that you people are talking about the Turing Test, first proposed in Computing machinery and intelligence by Alan Turing himself. He originally imagined a conversation over a Teletype machine (a sort of remote-control typewriter), but his discussion applies just as well to bots in chatrooms ...

First, I agree with Steve_Cory that "Aspies" have different well-developed skills and interested -- some are very good at mathematics, while others are not. So what's important here may be what is typical of populations rather than individuals. If Aspies are more likely to be good at math than non-A...

I recently contacted some local public-health centers and psychiatric clinics, and I found that those centers do not do Asperger's-syndrome evaluations and that those clinics charge lots of $$$'s -- $250 for an initial evaluation(!). One of them had a waiting list of 5 or 6 months. Because of that, ...

What would someone with the opposite of autism / Asperger's Syndrome be like? Very social, empathetic, friendly, and verbal, but often clueless about mathematics and mechanical things and the like, and often having difficulty following routines or concentrating on some task. There is no psychiatric ...

I appreciate of all the appreciation I've gotten for my efforts. :D I've discovered that the Wired AQ-test page still exists, but also that Wired's server no longer calculates one's score. But at least my pages will not suffer from that problem. :) And my pages seem to work properly in all your brow...

After something seemingly minor turned into a major blowup, someone suggested to me that I have Asperger's syndrome; this is the first time that I recall anyone ever suspecting me of having that condition. This led me to research the question of how one would test for that condition, and I found the...
