This is great information...

I totally missed the metal aspect of my question!  :D

Ok, so the sensation of "pain" can feel good, be soothing.... I have to sit with that, along with other comments.

I always appreciate the openness on this board!

My guess is extreme overstimulation. Crippling sensitivity and physical disability so that forming words is virtually impossible. Can anyone speak from personal experience? When the neurodiverse community advocates for a new view of autism, that expands to them.... no cure! not a disease, a differen...

While watching the 60 Minutes show on the remarkable intellect of a young man who was, for a time, treated as autistic, His autism didn't go away. He said that he was proud of his autism and that he contributed his intellectual gifts to it. It was awesome to hear. Autism is not globally disabling f...

Huh, I just took it for granted that auditory processing disorder was a part of having autism for a high percentage of folks.

This is off topic, but I've often wondered if taking acid mimics the autistic experience(relative experience obviously since their is no one specific autistic experience) for an NT. I've tried both--marijuana and acid. When I took acid, I used to say it was like taking a plug and plugging into mysel...

I am beginning to despise this Simon Baron Cohen.

Callista, I am counting on you to retort. Sorry for the pressure. But I can't do it because I don't have enough evidence, I just hope that you do.

It sounds like you could use some professional help on sorting this out. It sounds too overwhelming to deal with through a book. I think the first priority would be to protect your child from his father's hurtful behavior. I don't know what kind of custody agreement you have, but perhaps you could r...

I agree with everyone else. What you've described could certainly be the result of a number of other conditions. AS does not immediately come to mind. However, it's impossible to know exactly from this little snippet. The people with autism that I've met are some of the sweetest people I've ever met...

Thank you everyone! I very much appreciate your thoughts on this! I can't get enough input.... Since Tenzin isn't an aspie, he's autie, the language barrier is a huge factor as to why school became painful for him. Limited language coupled with sensory issues and not being able to quickly process al...

thx for the compliments on my little drawing :) (I might do a better inked/color version later if I ever find the time — what with classes & all.) @archraphael Hmm, I never really thought about my missing piece bringing me closer to animal instinct. I usually interpreted it the other way around...

In terms of HF or LF, it depends on specific skill areas. Like most people he's probably able in some areas and extremely challenged in others. I say Austistic Disorder because he reminds me so much of my son and that's his diagnosis. They all blend, with subtle tendencies with distinguish one diagn...
