I figured I'd give an update here for anyone who's interested. I did find a therapist via Mudboy's link (thanks again for that - it was really helpful) and have been seeing her every week for a little over a month now. While it hasn't been some sort of miracle cure to my stress and emotional trouble...

I don't have anyone to celebrate it with this year, so I'm having to settle for watching the fireworks in solitude from my apartment's balcony. And posting on internet forums. I also went for a nice sunset walk at the lake earlier, and was sort of amused to find that 90% of the people there seemed t...

There's been a gaping relationship-shaped hole in my life for the last year or so, too, and it's only been getting bigger with the horrible stuff I'm having to deal with at the moment. Just having one person to rely on, talk with, and just be around for me would make coping so much easier. I'm reall...

My biggest steps forward have come from circumstances where I've been forced deal with things myself, with no escape route to take. Things like flying over for my first job interview (terrifying), moving into an apartment for the first time alone (totally unknown territory, and a lot to deal with at...

It's not that I'm too caught up in my own world, but rather my social ineptitude and anxiety makes it too difficult to return other people's friendliness, and that tends to get mistaken for rudeness. It's led to me feeling a lot of guilt or shame at times, where nice people at work have attempted to...

I voted 5-15, as it doesn't take much to make me laugh usually. It largely depends on the number of silly videos and images that circulate at work or on Facebook that day:

Love the Doctor Who images :)

This is my current wallpaper. Nice and gloomy. I tend to switch up every time I come across something that catches my eye on CGTalk.

Yeah, the temptation to cheat and subsequent lack of challenge kind of put me off it too. It was fun when I thought the only way to get a great house was to make my Sims prosperous and earn a ton of money, building it up gradually. I liked having a goal to work towards bit by bit. But then I realise...

I feel most comfortable sitting in front of the TV with my family, with one of the cats on my lap, and the fireplace burning. Unfortunately, I'm now living on the opposite side of the world to those things :( Usually I'd say the solitude of my apartment is where I'm most comfortable, but lately comi...

There was a great service in the UK called LoveFilm, which had a good selection of both games and DVDs for rental by mail and a nice, user-friendly website. I really wish there was something like that here in the US too. I might give Gamefly a go, though. I spent far too much on console games over t...

I was addicted to Sims 3 for a few weeks, but then somewhere along the line I just lost interest. I enjoyed creating attractive faces and outfits and building some pretty impressive dream homes, but after a while the limitations of the Sims' behaviours became too obvious to me. They didn't really fe...

Griefing can be pretty funny. I think the Transformice phenomenon is a good example of screwing other players over being far more entertaining than just playing the game as intended: (The comments in the chat at...

Thanks for the replies, all. They've been helpful - particularly the link from Mudboy. I found someone relatively close by who seems like she has experience in the right areas for my problems. After talking with my mother about it a bit I decided to give one session a try and see how it goes. Last t...

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is my favourite depiction of love in a movie. The even attention it gives to the ugly side of the characters and their relationship makes the positive parts that much more moving. I can never get sucked into a film when things are too clean and idealistic.

"...there's nobody here that would want me," tends to be more the case for me, although I suppose that still means I wouldn't want them too. It does often seem like everyone out there is the same; outgoing, extroverted, only interested in drinking and partying, etc. If there are genuinely different ...

I was wondering if anyone could relate their experiences with therapists/counsellors, and whether or not it's something they might recommend. Has it been much genuine help for you? What type of therapy might I look for? Anyone who's read my previous threads in this section will know I've been strugg...
