So, I've been away for a long time. I'm not real good at the community thing, but I need to be, because I can't do this on my own, oddly enough. I started seeing a new shrink a couple of weeks ago after I got to a very bad place 6 weeks ago. The new shrink specialises in ASD patients, and after the ...

Stannis: Here's the problem I have with this... Take the example of a parent who sexually abuses their child. Pretty sure you'd agree with me that the parent needs to be arrested, charged and jailed. OK, but what happens if it turns out that the parent was sexually abused by one of their parents? St...

Right, so as aspies we're supposed to be highly systematised, and constantly systematising things, right? I do. But I'm super disorganised, I always have been, and I've been trying to work out why. Whenever I try and "get organised", I end up paralysed. It seems to stem from not being able to catego...

On the other hand, I'm not so sure about me. Maybe it's just me and not to do with the ASD, but I like the idea of Christmas, but not the actualities of it... eg: Giving gifts: OK, so the best gifts are the ones where you think about what would be really suitable for the person, and that they don't ...

So do you know how the seating is going to be like? Are people just standing in packs? If possible you might be able to seat or otherwise posistion yourself so there is minimum possible distress. Nosebleed seats, as it turned out, with a reasonable view of the stage. I wish you all the best of luck...

Bon Jovi. At a stadium.

A birthday present for my wife. I don't dislike Bon Jovi, but I'm not a fan. Add in the crowds of people, it being in the city and then LOUD music.

I'm a little anxious. :?

Well, some of the responses to this feel somewhat discouraging :/ Reality is what it is, I suppose. First breakdown in August 1998. It went completely untreated. I was off work for six months, then returned to the family company I worked for in a diminished capacity. I never felt "right" after that....

Yes. Because to be organised I need to able to put categories on things, and sort them into groups, and I get caught with things that I can't easily categorise, and thus the clutter continues. and I die a little more inside because it was ground into me as a child that disorganisation and clutter we...

Thanks everyone for the feedback (happy to get more).

1. It's nice to know I'm not alone.

2. I suspected that using alcohol to shut the metavoice down was probably a bad idea.

For those of you that have been there, how do you know when you've crossed the line to "alcoholic"?

Yes. I do this too. I've spent several years working as a "designer", so I apply the same skills there. Mind you... I have to straighten the paintings in people's houses. I also called out a television installer for installing a 50" TV on the wall in our office and not levelling it. He insisted it w...

Again, this ties in with my "brute-force" theory. I really need to blog it so I can link to it, but in a nutshell, I think it's possible to gather enough intellectual resources and by applying yourself, appear to be NT. The problem, which I realised recently, is that there's a cognitive cost to this...

I am interested in your brute forcing of social situations. Do you mean that you are always consciously thinking about what people are thinking and what you should be doing during social interactions? Yes. It's semi-automatic now, although I still catch myself consciously assessing body language. W...

I explained this to the psychologist, who told me it made sense to her. Basically, I "brute force" social situations. I'm constantly analysing the situation and pulling from my "experience library" or "topic library", examining body language, looking for cues and clues. It's exhausting. But then the...

The placebo effect is very powerful. no. The symptoms I've experienced forever are literally subsiding and I'm back to work and life better than I've ever been. Besides neurologically, I'm also physically healthier and stronger than ever. My skin has cleared up, I'm gaining muscle mass and st...

I'm getting a bit tired of speculation about what dead famous person might have been autistic. It's like you can't be brilliant or remembered for your brilliance if you weren't autistic. When all you've got is a hammer, everything looks like a nail? I knew someone whose partner was BPD. They were s...
