Most of this obviously has to do with the fact that rich families can afford to take their kids to psychological assessments if they notice something odd! There are probably many more undiagnosed AS kids from poor families, in poor school districts, that never receive any help. They said they accoun...

I agree that this is not a bad thing. The earlier autism is suspected, the earlier parents and professionals can help the child. It's better to know your child is having tantrums from sensory overload, then believing they are just bratty and making them do things that are difficult for their growing...

Yeah, it's sick the amount of people who believe an autistic child might be better of dead, than alive and different. If it were suddenly made legal to kill your autistic child, I bet a lot of parents would believe it would be the right thing to do since "they will be normal in heaven" or some nonse...

Detail oriented refers to two things. The more metaphorical "thinking style" of making small connections and able to predict/plan with detail, and having a detail oriented memory. And, local processing, which is a cognitive process, that basically means your brain doesn't see the whole picture, but ...

Yeah, unfortunately, some people find those kinds of mind games "amusing".
But sometimes they aren't doing it on purpose, some people are flakey, and unreliable, and "spontaneous".
If you know for sure that they are doing it for their own entertainment, forget about them completely.

It's hilarious what some AS guys think AS girls live like.
They seem to think girls with AS should have no trouble dating, because they would date a girl with AS.
But lots of NT guys are turned off by AS traits, or mistake you for a neurotic biatch.

I don't really have special abilities, it's only a frustrating disability for me.
I think it's good to accept yourself, and be proud to be able to work through your faults,
but then there are those certain people who seem to believe they are superior because of their AS
and that is silly.

If you're fine with it, thats okay.
A lot of "normal" people do not care much for social relationships either.
It sure makes life easier, so it can be a good thing!

There was some recent news articles questioning how psychological research is performed, and how to define "normal" populations, based on this. "The weirdest people in the world?" It seems there is a lot of cultural variation, when it comes to minds. Along with psychological views of the self and ot...

Some that I've been told:
People with Asperger's talk like robots, and can only be logical
People with Asperger's do not experience emotions, and do not enjoy any social contact.
And my favourite..
There is no way somebody with Asperger's could go to university.

There is no areas for "truth" in the brain. When people are learning new things, they immediately accept everything, and then after a short mental delay, decide whether it belongs or not- if they don't like it, it gets "thrown" out. Even though they are aware of the fact, it's like it is not really ...

Here is a very good article, available for free this month, that talks about the steps needed to communicate affectively with an alien (or another mind you don't understand.) It's a great intro to the neuroscience side of social psychology research. The Social Brain: allowing humans to bodly go wher...
