So, this is a project I worked for months on, composing and arranging, and mixed down with the help of a friend who is a professional sound engineer. I am really excited about the finished product. But now that it is available for download, I'm coming up against a set of skills I'm really lacking- p...

When I eat, my left hand is dominant for eating by hand, but my right hand for silverware. I usually write right-handed, but can with either hand forwards and backwards, so I write left handed when I want to think things through differently, and on rare days I will naturally pick up a pen to write w...

I absolutely disdain Las Vegas. I can't think of many more places that are as sensorily overwhelming. And anywhere near L.A. is going to be a challenge for a lot of people, either driving or trying to get there by bus. Most places west of the Mississippi have inadequate public transportation to work...

Those ratios mentioned are only if you define NT as non-Autistic. There are many significant neurological differences aside from the autism spectrum. The unique viewpoints of dyslexics, ADHD (not otherwise on the autistic spectrum) and other learning differences make the world a more interesting pla...

Thimerasol has not been in children's vaccines for years. If thimerasol was a cause, we would have seen a drop in autism rates in the years since it has been discontinued in children's vaccines (as advocates of this hypothesis publicly predicted.) As this has not been the case, thimerasol has been e...

I'm of the mind that taking recess away from a kid with executive function issues and a writing/ processing disability every time they misstep is excessive and destructive to self esteem. My daughter needs to be challenged but to punish her disabilites as an 'excuse' is abusive. A) The teacher alre...

The drowsiness effects me most when I'm adjusting doses. For the last month or so, because of confusion with the pharmacy at the clinic I go to, I haven't been able to get both the 40mg and 60 mg dosage, so I've been on about 60% of my usual dose. Now that I'm back to my regular dosage, it's changed...

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Is stimming a requirement?

The problem with the question of "stimming" is that often many of the same actions that would be considered stims when someone on the spectrum does them, are not considered stims when done by an NT, for instance, pacing, which serves much the same purpose of focusing when stressed. So although not e...

As someone who has been to the Alamo Draught Houses since the first one opened in downtown Austin, many of the facts the woman claims on the voicemail are simply lies, and some of the commenters are getting facts wrong. 1. Concerning the commenters saying she was 12. The Alamo wouldn't even let her ...

In the articles I found online, including the one linked by the OP, they refer to the attacker as having an "intellectual disability", but don't mention the 3-year old as having autism. Perhaps you know this from sources that aren't online, or that I haven't found yet?

You might try this group. I went to the meetup twice when I was working in Austin this Spring. http://www.meetup.com/aspergers-348/ It is for 18 and up (don't know from your profile if you are,) and is pretty laid back. I am only in Austin area for part of the year, or I'd meet for coffee, etc.

Back to the OP http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20110405215020AAjzSpd I was absolutely disgusted by one particular comment that really shows how some NTs are dumber than a stick when it comes to autism and whatever: Some experts are suggesting that autism is not a disability, but a diseas...

On the subject of IQ scores, mine has a 40 point difference between verbal and performance scores. Now, I believe, Wechsler currently has 3 components. But when there is that much of a difference between the two (or three) numbers the combined average (however it's weighted) doesn't really indicated...

Okay, just researched Janet Grillo. Former board member of Cure Autism Now, and Autism Speaks is collaborating with the advertising of the movie. On top of all that, she is an anti-vaccine twit on Huffington Post. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/janet-gri ... _1329.html

I was looking at the South by Southwest Film Festival lineup that was recently released, and it includes a drama called "Fly Away." Since I will be near Austin during SXSW, I thought I might see it, but it depends on when it's scheduled (unless I have something in paticular to go to, I avoid Austin ...
