We knew it was time to tell my son when he was coming home from school and having horrible meltdowns saying things like: "what is wrong with my me?" "my brain isn't right" "I shouldn't be alive" Etc. . That was exactly what was happening with my son too. I believe everyone copes better when they un...

We've used melatonin successfully with my son, after I read a research study about it. I discussed it first with my pediatrician and he says it was fine. Another suggestion for you: Massage (skin to skin contact) at bedtime has also proven very helpful. Here is a blog post discussing it, if you'd li...

(Or if nothing else, just meaningful hobbies.) I love those TED talks too - so diverse and interesting! Good l...

When I became concerned about my son's behaviors (beginning about age 2 1/2), I took him to our pediatrician, who said, "He is fine." When things just got worse, I took him to a neurologist (when he was about 6), who said, "It is not autism, because he makes eye contact." Eventually, I figured it ou...

My son's almost completely phased out too. He's got one week left of PT and that's it, for now. I've been reassured that if new problems arise, that we can always revisit potential services. This is a video of my 10 year old Aspie son talking about himself, life with Aspergers and his advice for other kids with AS. He has come such a long way in just a few short years, it is hard to believe that this is the same child who was so withdrawn, lonely and frustrated. There really is hope! Gr...

Here is the link to my latest post "On His Own?". This was a very emotional article for me to write, because it talks about the angst of planning for your child's future. There are unwritten social rules governing just about every interaction we have on a daily basis. And when a rule is broken, people notice. Here is the link to my latest blog discussing this topic:
