Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Is this normal when going to a club?

I think they do it for the ambiance-- the music, the people, the 'energy' in the room. I've gone to clubs several times, but I've never done anything aside from, well, sit around and drink. An old friend of mine used to use me as a wingman, and used to teach me how to pick up girls at a club. Grante...

I never bring up any traits or anything like that. I simply tell them "I would like to seek help with finding out if I have autism".

And that is when I get patted on the head and told "You're fine."

This is what I usually tell people when I get that reaction:

"Yes, yes, I live under a rock. But I like it under there. It's dark, and moist."

After which I'm usually no longer questioned.

I have suspected myself of having some form of autism for a little while now. When I researched the traits of Asperger's and High-functioning Autism i could relate to them a lot. I have attempted to discuss this with my father, but he doesn't believe me. I've tried to reach a psychologist for help, ...

I watched how my father interacted with people and began engaging them the same way.

Thanks to trial and error, I've a fair idea of what social etiquette is.

But there are times when people jump in shock at something I've said and retort with "How rude!"

I think in pictures. For me it's thinking in 'moving images' like a silent movie. But I can think in both pictures and sound, so yeah, just like a movie. I've got a vivid visual mind. I can picture things even with my eyes open. And I agree that visual thinkers learn math better when they use pictu...

If I want a gun, all I gotta do is ask my father. He's got a nice collection of handguns and rifles from his biker days. :P

I'm southern Canadian. Ain't gonna get much more red-canuck than us. :P

Visual - 8 Auditory - 5 Kinesthetic - 3 There were several questions where two answers could have applied to me. I agree that I am a visual learner, but I also enjoy hands-on learning. This leads me to believe that I am both a visual and kinesthetic learner. Auditory has to be my worst because I oft...

I'm actually one of the living dead.

Autistic kids were the only ones slow enough for me to catch. No pun intended.

I guess you are what you eat. [/Leave it to Beaver moment, laugh track ensues]

I find it slightly arrogant to think that we know everything that is going on around us. If that were true, then nothing could be unexplained. Correct? Conversely, I approach topics like this with a healthy amount of skepticism. I want to see proof just as much as any of you. I'm not shooting it dow...

I've been kept in the psychiatric ward for a few weekends, always for different reasons. First it was depression, then I was on suicide watch, lastly I was in for schizophrenia. All I wanted to do was sleep, but I kept getting woken up by the nurses so they could medicate me more. And if it weren't ...

One last thing about the dishes that makes my brain go loopy is when I can't get ALL the grime off the plate. I will scrub and scrub and scrub until I'm red in the face, or the blood vessels in my forehead have bulged. No jokes.

I don't know if I'm affected by this or not. I'll try to shed some light on the situation with an example. Doing the dishes is the best way to work me into a mental breakdown. Especially when there are alot of them. Doing the dishes is hard because I have to: - Remove the dishes from the sink(s) - ...

If I'm an aspie, then I don't think my AS 'comes and goes' like that.

I'm pretty much consistently aware of it. It's almost as though my AS is another side of me completely.

Being self-diagnosed (for the most part) I pretty much keep it to myself unless I'm discussing something where it is relevant. Having no official diagnosis, I'm often put up against the firing squad when I mention it. There are plenty of people out there who are convinced that I make all this up jus...
