I'm now 34 and I just now am getting to feel like an adult. I've always been about 5 years behind. When I was 10, I often still watched little kid shows during the day in the summer. When I was in high school, I still felt like a 12 year old and often acted like one. In college, I felt more like a t...

Bullies said things to me like "you should act normal" and "don't be so weird". I eventually started asking them to define weird so that I could understand and know where to correct my errors. This was usually met with stunned silence. Occasionally, someone would actually manage to come up with some...

I rarely get angry. I can easily become irritated or frustrated, but have developed techniques to keep these from building into real anger. I also take a lot of antidepressant/anti-anxiety medication and I strongly suspect this reduces my stress to a considerable degree, resulting in my personality ...

I use one of several techniques based on my analysis of the person and the situation. Different situations call for different 'go away' routines. If it's someone I know and don't like, I typically find any possible excuse that I have to be doing something very important, and eventually they quit bot...

I was put in some of those "special" classes for gifted kids when I was young. I have only vague memories of it since I was in grade school at the time and it wasn't particularly well organized. I didn't socialize any more there than I did in regular school. In fact, I probably socialized less since...

I pick at all the uneven surfaces on my skin: back, legs, face, scalp....and I can't stop even when I am at work or in the presence of others. If I have a pimple, cut or mosquito bite, I can't leave it alone until it bleeds. it will then heal, make a bump, and I will have to scratch it off...viciou...

Here's my list of boring conversations. 1. The weather 2. High school sports 3. Clothes/fashion/hairstyles 4. Gossip (who's dating who, getting divorced, whose kid did what, etc.) 5. Celebrity gossip (see above only about famous people) 6. Health issues (not that I don't care about your problems, I ...

I think it's more profound than that. I often feel I am closer to being a computer than I am to being an NT. I certainly understand computers a great deal more.

I don't. If I try to figure out what people are implying without saying, I'm often wrong, and my wrong guesses generally cause more problems than simply ignoring everything other than what's explicitly stated. Trying to figure out what people think I'm implying is even worse. I prefer when people sp...

I'm not sure I quite grasp the concept of a "hater". I have heard this term used and it seems to be an accusation against people who speak critically of some person or group. I have not yet encountered anyone or anything in this world which is above a bit of criticism. When that criticism is based o...

I think a large part of the reason people with AS are often tagged as "highly intelligent" has more to do with the way we measure and identify "intelligence" in children and less to do with any actual correlation. The typical tests I took as a child involved rote memorization, logical word relation...

I take high doses of anti-depressants. I have found this is greatly helpful in reducing my anxiety and allows me to better handle the usual stresses of day to day life. It does not make me more sociable or reduce the 'eccentricity' that makes employment difficult, but it makes life a good deal less ...

My theory is that "normal" is something of a meaningless word. Ask an NT to define it. If you get an answer at all, it's likely to be vague and end up being something along the lines of "not like me". I used to do this in HS, when people would tell me I wasn't normal. I'd say something like "Really,...

He sounds pretty aspie to me. If I were in his situation, I would also be confused about your dissatisfaction. I would probably reason something like "the doctors know what they're doing I'm not sure what my presence would accomplish." I will hear how it went when I get home and if something was wro...

There are several threads about this I believe. The typical answers I see are "computer programming", "data entry", and for the less educated "janitor", "assembly line worker". Ultimately, I think I have to focus on a few things when looking for a job. 1. Social interaction - The less the better 2. ...
