I believe that high self-esteem is a feeling, an emotion. It is like the aha feeling you experience when you really get a work of art, or piece of music. It is the feeling you get when you KNOW what is going on here (in your world). You feel in your bones that you can cope and do well in the future ... |

I would like to go get an official diagnosis. I have looked at various professionals on google and found none that look like they would know anything about anyone over the age of six. I have a Psychiatrist that I see because I am BPII and have a lot of anxiety. I don't know if I should talk to her ... |

I'm completely sh*****g myself for tomorrow, it's my first appointment with a psychologist/psychiatrist and I'm wondering what will happen during the appointment? Would they diagnose me with Asperger's on the first visit if I tell them the problems I have had in my life in relation to the traits of... |

I regret ever having shared my diagnosis with former acquaintances, classmates, friends - naively thinking "THIS will help them to understand why I was always having inexplicable problems". In my experience - they don't want to know, they don't care, and they just prefer to think I was a ... |

People ... normal people, never think about Asperger's. It doesn't come up in normal conversation... ever. No one mentions it in the news, or talk shows, or regular TV, or newspapers. Bipolar disorder, kleptomania, autism, schizophrenia, psychosis, narcissism, come up far more often than Asperger's.... |

We often think of empathy as a skill rather than the long-ago, neuronally ingrained bioevolutionary tool for survival that it actually is: the ability to inhabit the feelings of fellow beings (the word empathy derives from the Greek en, which means ‘‘in,’’ and pathos, meaning ‘‘suffering’’ or ‘‘expe... |

Every day I find myself cruelly straddled between my solitary life and my social life. The solitary life is easy: you wake up, forage all day, go back to sleep, repeat. The social life is ridiculous. I can't relate to people my age. I can't do small talk. You'd have to get me drunk to drag me to a ... |

Scientists in China say they used genetic engineering to create monkeys with a version of autism, an achievement that could make it easier to test treatments but that raises thorny practical and ethical questions over how useful such animal models will be. Neuroscientist Zilong Qiu of the Shanghai I... |
