Still not really enough information to give an adequate response. As it is, your question came across to me as... why is she speaking when you didn't give her permission to speak.

Thanks all. Some good ideas. I think he'll understand the computer analogy best since he works with computers.

This has been a really stressful couple of years, which means I've been having more meltdowns / shutdowns and they are bigger. I'm having some difficulty explaining what's happening in a way that my husband can understand. He just sees that I'm upset. Any ideas? I don't suppose it would matter, exce...

I can't have kids, so Mother's Day is a reminder to me of the thing I can't have.

Hate it.

Though I'm on medication this year and it wasn't as horrible as previous years.

Then there's the whole social protocol on who to call who not to call. Kinda makes my head hurt.

I think most people have their heart broken at least once. I did. And it stuck with me a very long time. Looking back, I wonder if it was worse because I didn't know about my aspergers. I remember after the breakup, I kind of floated around school - not knowing where I fit in. I even switched school...

Happens to me all the time. Happened in grade school and happens at work. Generally speaking, it wasn't until I was in my 20's that I really started to feel half way comfortable in voicing opinions. But if it's a large group, I always melt into the background. It's one reason I love animals. They ne...

Oh yeah. I have all kinds of craft items. I also have a ton of stuff from my childhood. Even have baby cloths and elementary school homework.

My husband just ignores the piles of stuff.

I have gotten better and actually trimmed some of it.

This question seems simple and straight forward, but it's really very complex. Maybe if Asperger's symptoms were consistent and predictable, you could say it's easier for men or women, but that's not the case. There are dozens of variables. And then there's the individuals ability to cope and/or ble...

I haven't read the other thread, so I'm not 100% sure what the history is. Clearly you are upset. You have my sympathy. To draw a parallel, when alcoholics are confronted they often deny having a problem (or so I'm lead to believe). From what you've said here, it sounds like your mom might be in den...

I have a horrible sense of smell. Apparently I used way too much perfume when I was younger. I couldn't hardly smell the perfume, but my mother told me it was too strong. Very embarrassing. Smell isn't something you get tested for. I had no idea my sense of smell wasn't normal until one day my mothe...

In addition to the tricks already mentioned, I sometimes will let the focus slip. So my eyes are parked in the general direction of the other person's eyes, but my attention is sort of focused elsewhere so I'm not really seeing them.

I know it's weird.

Two points. First, just because the term Autism was established in the early/mid 1900's, that does not mean that Autism didn't exist prior to that. Consider, we Giant Tube Worms were discovered in 1977. But they existed prior to 1977. Second, even if Autism did spring into being when we decided to g...
