I don't know of any studies indicating that people with ASD are more susceptible to MI. It's possible, I'm just not aware. The second point is a good thought. Maybe bipolar and schizophrenia influence behavior more? I don't know. I sometimes wonder if it's just a matter of the direction the differen...

What's the difference between the mind and the brain? To me they are synonyms. I can see a case of argument that autism isn't because the autistic's brain is wired that way at birth but schizophrenia and bipolar are both highly genetic which means their brain is also at least predisposed to being th...

but autism is not? I apologize in advance that this topic is such as it is but as someone diagnosed with both bipolar and ASD I've been trying to figure out. What exactly is the difference between the two? As I understand it, they both have abnormalities in brain functioning. They both have measurab...

Honestly, the only thing I care about is my "special interests". If I could keep those and become somewhat functional in this society, I'd take it. Well... my routine would be somewhat hard to let go of... Hmm... Should an individual change to fit society or should society change to fit the individu...

It triggered a psychotic episode but those are a part of my mental make-up. I very well may have been fine if I had been put on a mood stabilizer at the same time but this was before my bipolar Dx. It's common that anti-depressants trigger mania in people who are bipolar and the psychotic episodes a...

A good place to start is studying story structure. There are several schools of thought about it. A character driven story involves how the character is changed in the story and uses whats called a character arc. In a plot driven story the plot is more important and the characters change only slight...

My non-expert opinion is leaning toward no.

You might have some anxiety that is caused by something similiar to agoraphobia but it's probably better accounted for from the autism.

I dropped the clarinet in favor of a keyboard when I was a kid. I have more experience with the keyboard. It does make sense in my situation since I can plug in headphones and not bother the neighbors. I was avoiding it because the finger positions required hurt my hands. It might just be from not p...

I'm thinking about learning a musical instrument. I played the clarinet when I was a kid for a very short while and am considering picking that up again. I'm also enjoying Apocalyptica and am considering the cello. Any other instruments I should consider?

One of these days I'm going to want to delete all of my posts. I sometimes say things that I... regret. I was visiting over at psychforums the other day and they had resurrected an old thread that was... embarrassing. The way I react to people sometimes... I've never been "reprimanded" before but I ...

I have to say I'm confused by some of this particularly the issue of speech delay. Here's a comment from one of Tony Attwoods's papers "Three studies have cast considerable doubt over the use of early language delay as a differential criterion between autism and Asperger's syndrome (Eisenmajer, Pri...
