I would still define that as stimming- Doctors don't understand a lot of things, as long as they're not trying to force you to stop or it's stopping you from getting something like benefits, don't worry about what they think.

I have EDS type 3, which is hypermobile. To be honest, though, most people would benefit from a gluten free diet. Even healthy people with nothing "wrong" with them.

I'm pretty sure this is a joke, but if not... Seriously, if THIS offends you, you probably shouldn't be working with people- Especially when preference to one gender over the other may actually happen on a regular daily basis for many, MANY reasons. If you're not a troll, get over yourself. When you...

More often I get, "I kind of noticed" or "I can tell." I get this, too, but not by many NT's. I also got the 'Oh, I would never have guessed', but then a few weeks later, he said that he'd been looking into it (ie reading up on it on the web and in the library) and he now saw several habits and man...

That one annoys me, too. I had a friend say she knew one other person on the spectrum and decided since I wasn't like that person, that I couldn't possibly be on it. I think it's harder to get recognition as women on the spectrum to begin with, it doesn't help when our friends don't support it eithe...

Do some of your friends tell you that they never would have guessed? I get that a lot because from a very young age it was literally beaten into me to not do "weird things" (stimming, staring, talking at length about special interests, etc.) by bully's at school and an idiot Father at home. I kept m...

I can't really say it's an aspie thing since I know A LOT of NT's who have refused to get a new therapist when theirs retired, left the city they were in, said they would be better helped by another person, etc. And actually DID stop going to their current one immediately. You've given 18 years to t...

I thought Aspergers was a social disorder. Only part of it is social- It's neurological and developmental, too. That, and since it's a spectrum disorder, some will have amazing memories, others will not. I have a lot of co morbid conditions that also have memory problems, so I'm screwed no matter w...

I take people into Dr. Appointments with me (my Mum, fiance, or one very trusted friend) for a lot of reasons, but memory problems is one. I forget the information as it's being told to me, so to try to then relay it to others, or remember instructions, etc. Is really hard. The times it's absolutely...

Ok, but I already have a long list of diagnoses. Adding more is just going go scare me. I mean, I am sure I have ADHD and bipolar disorder too (diagnosed years ago but lost the paperwork), but really really don't want to get these added. The ones I have are more than enough to cope with as it is. I...

Did you need ADHD to get this? I mean, I'm pretty sure I easily have ADHD, but if I can't get it with the diagnoses I have, it means I would have to get yet another diagnosis. I already have a long list of them. This business of chasing DSM codes has become my new hobby. And I'm tired of it....

Well, I agree with everyone here, that it's been well-established that she was overreacting. But as the OP, I've told her that, it's just a trivial matter and not worth getting into knots over - but she blames it on the "compounded effect", i.e. that there have been so many "little things" that I d...

this forum. =P I relate to most things said on here, but I'm not self dxing really, or I'm trying not to I had an issue with this. I didn't get diagnosed until I was 26 or so, and when I got an actual diagnosis, I found my Mum was more understanding about things. I don't have an official diagnosis ...

Well, unfortunately it's her life and now that she's 17 and going to soon be a full adult, you're going to have to let her make those mistakes. She's a big girl now and you've done everything possible to try to help her, but if she's unwilling on accepting the help, then no amount of pushing will do...

It always seems like to me that whenever someone is a jerk, someone assumes they must have AS. I hate that stereotype and stigma. Sure there are aspies out there who are jerks but it's still offensive when it gets blamed on it. I think all jerkness should be worked on, AS or not so it's not like it...

Every time someone thinks their partner or parent may be an aspie or thinks they are one, why is it always a jerk? When my husband came home one day and told me the psychiatrist told him he shows signs of autism, I couldn't believe it because he is a nice man and has no anger and isn't a OCD freak ...
