Well, I dunno. I think shallow-ness on the Internet is to be expected. I mean, not everyone is shallow, but people who make a point of not considering someone's looks then their personality are probably exceptions . . . It has more to do with the process, because OkCupid is set-up so you see someone...

You could write-in an encounter (intentional or accidental) with hallucinogenic drugs, I guess. Or you could just have her be really pre-occupied with the book and characters, so like, a million things remind her of them and she'll zone out and start thinking about them. I also liked the idea of a s...

Thanks for recommending Ryu Murakami. I'll be sure to give him a try. Almost Transparent Blue is like an extra intense, Japanese A Clockwork Orange , by this I mean it's sort-of dark and contains alot of drug/sexual content. But it's also really thoughtful, and has an energized and really pretty pr...

Nearly finished with this, and I hate to see it end. Murakami is brilliant. Good thing Murakami is such a prolific writer. You'll be completely sick of him before you run out of his books . . . then there's plenty of cool authors who are also po-mo, or also Japanese to switch to afterwards. I want ...

My advice (as a gay person) is that you only need to tell people where telling them matters, but doesn't matter. Like, where there is a good reason for you to tell them, and no major reasons you shouldn't. This logic is imperfect, but 'coming out' isn't an all at once thing; it's a recurring process...

Religion has never been important to me, nor has asserting my non-religiousness been, or what other people believe. I'm actively assembling a worldview based-on what I absorb and evaluate from my surroundings, from classic novels, from comparing ideas etc. My intuition and emotions are factors, as i...

I'm reading What We All Long For , by Dionne Brand. It's refreshing after some recent encounters with racism/bigotry, a bit of an upgrade . Plus it's set in Toronto. The first scene took place on a subway, and I just happened to be reading it on the subway. Pretty nifty. http://photo.goodreads.com/b...

i think our unique art comes from the fact we are less infuences by society than most. I agree. My outsider status and ability to interpret things literally, and look at things objectively, helps me make high-quality insights/observations in my writing. And I think that seeing things in this way is...

basically meme theory posits that cultures can be seen as evolving, competing entities like any other population, and differing strategy in reproductive quantity and quality apply to them as much as to biological populations: does a culture survive by biologically out-reproducing another culture, b...

I get along differently with men, to LGBTQ people, to women. I get along a bit less naturally with guys because I'm always self-conscious over the crushes I have on some of them, the precarious attitudes they might have towards my sexuality etc. But in a weird, business-ey, self-conscious way I stil...

I think you can get a special Aspergers-based modification allowing you to listen to music with headphones while you do independent work . . . my school let everyone do this, because studies have shown it helps most people focus, but even if they wouldn't let most people do it if you talk to your te...

I play the clarinet, write, and do visual art. I think the biggest advantage my Aspergers traits have given me towards these is my obsessive interest in them . . . I dedicate alot of time and work to improving at them. Beyond this, I can work intelligently towards improving. I'm good at finding area...

Someone I know hosted their birthday party at a nudist beach, and I started getting really worked-up and anxious over it. Then I learned they were only hosting it there would be no kids and it would be less crowded. Then I was disappointed that no-one wanted to do the nudist thing, and realized that...
