I prefer the more balanced and nuanced approach offered by musingsofanaspie.com: Weighing Self- vs. Professional Diagnosis Obtaining a diagnosis as an adult can be very difficult. Not everyone needs or wants a professional diagnosis. Self-diagnosis is widely accepted in the autism community when do...

You cannot say you are autistic until you have a diagnosis. You suspect you have autism. You cannot say, for a fact, that you are autistic. Period. End of story. I know myself (38 years, that's an expertise), I have done the tests which give me a clear result. I read about it, it is clearly me 100%...

A person is either autistic or is not autistic. If the OP’s suspicion is correct the OP is autistic. If a person gets a diagnosis of autism and the diagnosis is incorrect the person is not autistic. Expertise gives a person a better chance of getting a diagnosis correctly be it self or proffessiona...

^^^still I don't especially need a confirmation in itself from a professional. What would I do with this official professional label? Stick it on my forehead and hang my head in shame? Simply, would be better that she knows specifically for the development of friendship. On other points, like anxie...

Sefl-diagnosed, I just know I have it. I am not keen on having confirmation, on having a diagnosis. Just want to deal better with it. I would discuss with your psychiatrist that you suspect an autistic spectrum disorder. I wrote about this in my series... And I know you don't want to hear this - bu...

My shrink wants to help me to make friends... not sure if she noticed that I am autistic and how much my condition is preventing me from making friends. Has anybody tried to explain your shrink you are autistic and the specific difficulties you have making any friend? I am reluctant to tell her all...

By looking at the face definitely not. By looking at the behaviour maybe, if you have good observational skills. Funny enough, I've personally already spotted some "potential" aspies in my class but I've spotted like 2 or 3 "potential" aspies besides me. Each one different thoug...

Also, are you open to uodating the content of your series with alternative ways some AS issues may express themselves? Like, in the Sensory issues part you talk ahout hypersensitivity, but in my case I actually have hiposensitivity so I may be able to provide some thoughts and information on that I...

Statistics show that the percentage of autistic people with a disorder of intellectual development is higher than the one of non-autistic people. On the other hand, research also suggest that the percentage of autistic people with an above avarage IQ is also higher than the one of non-autistic peop...

My mom claims you can tell I am autistic by looking at my old school pictures. Supposedly you can tell by my "fake smile" and this "look" in my eyes.

This is an example of confirmation bias, but even if it were true - she is commenting on behavior, not physicality
