I don't have time to respond thoroughly right now, but thanks so much to everyone who responded. A lot of your ideas have really helped me. :) It's true that I am putting way too much pressure on myself to have a HUGE impact on the world, and even though I believe I can do that, I think focusing on ...

Ok, so am diagnosed with relatively mild AS or PDD-NOS (my therapist isn't big on focusing on the diagnosis, and to some extent, I agree). Anxiety was a big problem for me as a child (going to school was a big issue for several years), but then it got better in my teens before coming back with a VEN...

I personally don't believe in the left/right brain distinction the way that many people do. We really don't understand very much about the brain, and there isn't that much evidence to suggest there is the kind of distinction in function as is implied in discussing "left and right brain function."

Actually, that's part of the very definition of Asperger's Syndrome. Aspie's are more bothered by new things than NTs are. What you say on a basic level is true in that aspies don't do well with change/new things, and yes, there are plenty of aspies who are very closed-minded and think that anythin...

Hah. funny.

I think I know what you mean. If I don't have structure, I don't get anything accomplished and I become anxious and usually end up spending all of my time surfing the web and/or doing drugs. Structure, though, is scary for another reason - the lack of excitement and feeling trapped into a certain sc...

I think it's absolutely moronic for way too many reasons to list, but obviously you are dead set on trying it, and that's fine. Hope it works out for you. Maybe spanking is just what you need to turn your life around.

Alcoholism runs in my family on both sides. I always demonized drinking and drugs for several reasons: the alcoholism in my family, the fact that I didn't feel I was cool enough to drink/drug, the fact that drinking and drugging are indeed stupid in many ways, the fact that most of the people I knew...

Aspies don't have a childhood speech delay; HFAs do. You can't tell the difference after functional speech emerges, which usually happens by age five. According to the DSM-IV, one arbitrary source of diagnostic information, this is the difference. There are other diagnostic criteria more common in ...

My mom likes my special interests. She thinks anime is neat and enjoys hearing what I have to say about it. Recently, she's really gotten a kick out of listening to me talk about Axis Power Hetalia. My brother likes hearing about anime, too. He likes a lot of the characters that I like; especially ...

Thanks a lot for the detailed explanations. I feel kind of bad now about asking the question because I hate to drag up painful topics. Do you by any chance suffer from extreme anxiety? I have had some similar difficulties but with far less severity during times of anxiety. When I'm anxious I become ...

I disagree with a lot of the original post. First of all, lots of aspies are interested in sports, rock and roll, sex, and drugs. In fact, I've done quite a bit of all of those things in my life. I haven't always pursued them in stereotypically NT ways - I haven't done drugs to fit in, I haven't gon...

What are these daily things that you can't do? I'm not trying to challenge you as there are things I can think of that could pose a real problem - I'm just curious. Oh, and I still haven't gotten through the whole article, but like many of you, I really hope that they would consider at the very leas...

This is possible the most informative article about in depth issues related to our understanding of AS/autism that I've ever seen. I need time to go through it all before I post more, but I am really encouraged to see so many of the issues I have taken with the way we think about AS/autism, especial...

The Onion article was pretty funny. Parts of the Encyclopedia Dramatica article were hilarious, but a lot of it was just stupid. The funniest part of either one by far is that kid's video. I've watched a bunch of his other videos on Youtube and they're hysterical.

BPD folks have social issues only because they have very poor boundaries Oh really? Later you say that BPD is "all about emotions." It can't be the case that their social issues are only due to poor boundaries set or perceived by the person with BPD if the whole disorder is "all about emotions." it...
