I pretty much say it all in one of my blog posts: http://aspieedge.blogspot.com/2012/04/to-diagnose-or-not-to-diagnose.html I may eventually do it just to stand up and be counted, but I see no real value to me even if it was free here --the traits I may need help with (insomnia, anxiety, etc) can be...

The apple seldom falls all that far from the tree. Many of us old folk were diagnosed, be it self-diagnosed or officially, in the wake of one of the younger generation being diagnosed. If you are on the spectrum, the odds are that one or both of your parents also have traits. If so, your mom doesn't...

Self diagnosed, and I'm ok with that. If the diagnosis of Aspergers had been available when I was, like, 12, I have no doubt whatsoever that I would have gotten one then. By the time it was added in 1994, I was 34 years old (or 33, depending on what month they released the revision  ), and, wh...

I am undiagnosed, but am certain this is the key I've been seeking. My best friend's daughter is diagnosed HFA and got SSI on the first try, and I was just like her at her age. I may try to make it official some day, but I'll have to find someone who can look past the gray hair and the fact I've bee...

Expecting people whom have "lived on their own for five years" to come to this forum is ridiculous. If they were able to do that they would have no reason to come here. I was the bread winner of this household for 10 years, and had lived on my own for 7 years before going back to school. It wasn't ...

But Kabul is the most probable.

You list your location as Beirut ,Lebanon. Is Kabul that much worse than Beirut?

For 10 months my best friend complained to 4 different doctors of chest pains, that were only relieved by taking nitro. All 4, independently of each other, blamed the pains on her RA, and completely pu-pu'd her concerns that she may be heading for yet another heart attack. Her cardiologist finally r...

I think being diagnosed as a child and raised as having an ASD is hindering to one's development. I see this firsthand as an undiagnosed adult, with a child in school. If I was in school nowadays, I would be singled out and diagnosed as Autistic in some form. However, when I was in school, instead ...

Naturopaths are the only exceptions? I think not! Total overgenerealization. even among the mainstream doctors, finding the proverbial needle in haystacks not guaranteed to have a needle is more trouble than it's worth. You still need to go to the doctor if you think you have nutritional issues. I ...

A doctor can either run labs, examine you, all that, or he can be like "Oh, you're depressed , have some *insert antidepressant*" and send you off. 9/10 doctors easily will do this. The only exceptions are naturopaths and unfortunately for them there's no regulation, and finding a good one is hard....

There is likely to be far more participation if it is also online : stream the events, and provide a way for folk to chime in via text or voice.

I almost didn't learn to drive. My mom took me out on the road to teach me -- that lasted about a half hour. Then my dad tried, with similar results. They finally resorted to contacting a driving school -- for months someone would come get me and spend a couple hours teaching me how to drive. I did ...

Maybe take them into account but don't rely on these tests alone for an answer as they will score positive for quite a few people without ASDs from what I understand. With the AQ test, I recall reading that it found 4 people per 100 had autistic behavior when using the general population, whereas t...

There's always the possibility that one of those teachers could snap and start killing students. Only one of them would have to snap, and a number of kids would be killed before anyone would be able to get there to stop them. I wouldn't suggest arming teachers with lethal weapons, but maybe tranqui...

I don't, but DH has it down to an art form. I've been out of work since feb, and he's terrified we'll be homeless. Nevermind we live frugally, have substantial savings, and I have relatives, and am getting interviews. I often compare him to a cross between Rambo and Chicken Little.
