Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: AS/HFA is like being high?

Being high on weed just cannot be compared with having AS/HFA. It can only be compared with other drug-induced states (transitory in nature), whereas ASDs are different, permanent neurological make-ups. Weed is one of my special interests. I love it because it makes me feel different than I normally...

Well, for starters, executive function is disturbed both in AS and in ADHD (but in ADHD it is more perturbed than in AS). Aspies engage in stimming and ADHD people stim too. I think that some stims might be different, but some are common (e.g. pacing). Rocking or hand flapping are, however, done mos...

Thank you. Sometimes, it's really good to have someone tell me it's not my fault... Shutting down because of feeling guilty after a meltdown happens to me too. Not always, but often it does...

Before kindergarten or around that time, I became aware of the fact that no one else, adult or child, made up stories like I used to do. Nowadays, writing is my special interest, but, before I learned how to write, I just imagined stories all the time (I still do). Sometimes, I played them out with ...

The happiest times of my life have been experiences related to my special interests. When I develop a new intrerest, it's like falling in love. In fact, even better than falling in love ever was to me... If getting a cure means that I would lose this ability, then I do not want to be cured. Life wit...

Would curing autism mean that I would lose my special interests? That I would never be able to fall in love again with a new obsession (be it a new music or a new topic of interest)? Would it mean that I would stop having synaesthesia, which helps me a lot with my writing? Would it mean that I would...

Yes, NTs do that too. But they don't do it all the time. Me, I do it all the time. I stim relentlessly. I my class, some NT people used to bounce their leg from time to time. But just a quick look would have sufficed to spot the autistic & ADHD person in there (me, that is)... I was on a non-sto...

I do that too. I always have obsessions with a band or an artist and listen to their whole discography. And when I find a song that I really love, I'll listen to it repeatedly... I first got into music at 7 years of age, when my father played a vinyl disc with Ravel's Bolero. I was entranced, learne...

Having escaped diagnosis for many years, I also believed that I had no touch sensitivities. But I do, although they are not very bad. There are types of clothing I simply cannot stand on my skin. I also cannot sit in an uncomfortable position for a long time, as my limbs start to hurt. I also have a...

I do not know how NTs experience their sense of self, so I am unable to say whether I experience it differently than them. I am very analytical and understand my emotions very well. I can also express them verbally very easily, maybe too easily - nobody really wants to listen to me explaining the wa...

I had a horrible meltdown today, maybe the worst I've ever had. I had it because my aunt started accusing me and threatening me again with altering our relationship, because I arrived late at her place when I was supposed to do the shopping (she has some stupid ideas about being late and insists on ...

That Ben Nugent guy really annoyed. I am an aspiring novelist myself and I don't see how being an Aspie could hinder that... And, you know, just because it might be culturally hype to assume that so and so might be autistic, it doesn't mean that autism is overdiagnosed . Autism is only diagnosed by ...

I guess some men get six-packs in natural ways, without intending to. Just as some women naturally have big breasts. I think the article is condemning people's tendency to obey to beauty norms without any regard to their well-being, not that six-packs or big breasts are bad in themselves. However, O...

As a child I was very naive and happy. As a teenager my naivety made me the butt of teasing and bullying and I became UNhappy very quickly. I have been working through my emotional issues since then, and I think I am finally emerging into my state of happy naivety again. That's where I want to be -...

I think it's meant as somebody who gets angry or annoyed over what happens, not a dickhead...

As for the current topic, I think I am quite naive. Less naive than I was in the past. That made me less happy. So my current life mission is to find a way to be happy, while not being that naive.

I'm Eastern Orthodox too. I think a lot about spiritual issues and about the way to live a Christian life. AChristian life to me means a life filled with love and compassion for God's creation and creatures. A Christian life to me means standing up against injustice and evil. It means not harming ot...
