You can't free Ireland from the British Empire in 1918. It isn't in the Empire, it's in the United Kingdom!

The Second World War was about stemming the Nazi tide, first and foremost. And also about stemming Japanese expansionism. I believe the motivation might not have always been altruistic. But who cares? We got rid of the Nazis, and we stemmed the Japanese tide. This is the nub of it. The allies fough...

It is worth noting that the US embassy in London is currently trying to use their diplomatic status not to pay the city's congestion charge - even though City of London land is privately owned & diplomatic immunity only covers host nation costs not private landlord's bills.

The UK still uses feet, yards, and miles. And pounds. And they use stone, too (14 lbs). But temperature has been in Celsius for years. Tricky the British. They use metric apart from inches for body parts, feet for height & braking distances, miles for journeys, pounds for fruit & veg, stones...

Often, when a fantasy story or a story set in Medieval Europe has an all-white cast and the writers are called out for this, they will come back saying that including people of color would be "historically inaccurate". So having all-white casts in such stories would actually be historical...

This reward scheme is somewhat flawed. By spending any amount of money would be beneficial towards mankind. Even the $10. The sales will accrue a tax thus enabling the government to spend it. To truely be of no benefit to humanity, you'd have to live of the interest - thus leaving enough of a lump s...

Reminds me of an anecdote I heard on the internet. Can't prove it but for the amusement. Supposedly, Scotland Yard had a consultant, retired US police. The consultant was asked "What you do if someone aggressive was shouting at you and holding a brick?" "Shoot them." came the res...

Saying everybody in that queue are selfish or lack empathy may well be a false dilemma. This happening in Britain gives one more element not previously mentioned so far - stiff upper lip. Societal rules designed to prevent unrest. Keep calm and carry on would literally apply here. Anyone who does no...

MAD still exists. You nuke someone, you get nuked. The only exemption would require the agreement of every nuclear stakeholder, not just the majority.

Just because someone doesn't have their hand over the red button doesn't mean that they are never going to press it.

For starters, you are innocent until proven guilty... (though obviously a lower standard is used for arrests) Hypothetically, you would be guilty. You being charged with trespass on someone else's land whilst standing on that person's land. You went there voluntarily when you left the house. Nobody...

With all due respect to everybody's sensibilities, this is still the United Kingdom. The police represent the crown in this issue. An officer doesn't have to justify why they are stopping you. You are on royal land - it's up to you to justify your presence and activities here.

Even if they were eating each other, they didn't have a year's worth of rat meat to sustain them! They're all dead. Rats can breed 24 to a litter & eat their own droppings. 18 months, they'd definitely be dead. 12 months, a few malnourished specimens might survive. Not that their survival chanc...

Worst movie ever. So Rats who have known nothing other than eating other rats are going to crash into Scotland. At which point, they eat all the local rats before being hunted down by larger animals they don't recognize. If there is a film made, I'd recommend telling it from the rats perspective.
