It's a huge issue for me and one of the main reasons I dreaded going to my old job and decided to go to grad school. In my old job I ended up filling in for my manager in a formal representative role from time to time, which meant meeting strangers (i.e. her business contacts) who I had to impress o...

Ok, so this is a bit embarrassing, but I am really hoping for some helpful feedback and I am comfortable posting it here since this subforum is closed. I posted a longer description of myself in the introduction thread on this subforum, so I will not go over all of that again. The short is: I got di...

In my opinion, if you consider college as a means to an end (the end being employment), then you will be disappointed unless you are genuinely passionate about the applied sciences, math, accounting, or some form of vocational training. However, if you can afford to consider college a once in a life...

Might sound weird but mine is "interference". Since English is my second language, I used that word when I wanted to transition to my American English accent from speaking Swedish. I would say out loud "interference" in a really exaggerated American manner and that snapped me into American mode. :D

I think a lot of the times when people mistake the age of Aspies for as much as decades younger than we actually are, it's not only because of looks, but also because of a naive demeanour and not carrying ourselves with authority and confidence, like adults our age. That naive, awkward demeanour is ...

I am no looker either. Bald, asymmetrical face, questionable facial hair. But somehow I apparently make it work for me. The guy I am casually seeing told me to my face that he doesn't find me hot, but that I can be very cute and interesting. As far as interesting goes, I think it has to do with deme...

One of the psychologists who diagnosed me specifically mentioned my inability to plan and organise my academic work (I am in graduate school) as a problem stemming from autism as opposed to ADD/ADHD. I don't know where to begin or how to manage this huge project with hundreds of sources. I had probl...

Puberty: age 11 First kiss (with a girl): age 12 Then followed years of confusion as I was coming to terms with being gay. At age 15 I somehow convinced my best (and only real) friend into mutual masturbation, which resulted in overwhelming feelings of guilt and sadness as he distanced himself from ...

I'd say I looked about five years younger than my age until I started balding. I now shave my head and grew a beard and suddenly people treat me like an adult, I don't get carded, etc. Being bald at 30 I don't know if I look 30 or older (since balding is associated with older age)? Either way, I qui...

As an Aspie that was diagnosed at age 28, I can fully understand what your son is going through. The aspect of expectations was a point of high stress for me. For as long as I can remember, "Finishing school, going to college, and getting a good job," was the only meaning of life. Working with othe...

I'd say (as a woman in her thirties and not a 'pimply teenager') it's a matter of finally finding out that all the many differences that I've spent my life dealing with have a name, are part of some established body of knowledge and that there's finally a group of people out there who I have someth...

Haha, I love these "critter" communities. I am an otter myself, which someone had to point out to me, but I now cherish that label and community. Woof!

I knew I was gay and came to terms with it long before I knew I am an Aspie (which I only found out this year at age 29). Hence, I never tried to understand my sexuality in light of my autism, which I think would have made it easier to digest on some level. I always felt different without ever knowi...

Thank you, Lostiehere!

I never know where to draw the line in order to give the sufficient amount of detail. Guess that comes with the territory...

Do you or anyone else have recommendations for interesting discussions to follow on here? I don't really know where to begin.
