I got the same email as you Woodpecker. I must confess, I just saw it as a fundraising attempt and didn't consider the possibility of it being taken literally. Good point. NAS is the largest autism organisation in the UK and I too looked to them for support in the past. They weren't especially usefu...

Regarding the Wakefield "study", please read this excerpt from the British Medical Journal to clarify the reality of that fraud and the disgusting reality of that man. I apologise for the length of this post but since this has been cited, and continues to be used to justify stupidity it ne...

Nobody has the right to an opinion and have it respected, simply because they believe it. You only have the right to an informed opinion. Decades of research have disproven their beliefs but they cling to their assertion like zealots. Here is the evidence for no links based on 1.25 million cases. Th...

The UK Trades Union Congress also used the 85% figure in their guidance document distributed to UK based businesses last year. I have no idea how they came across this figure, but know that we still use 1:100 as the estimated rate of prevalence. This is the website and the guide is linked from there...

Excellent! The more people take the initiative, as you have done, the better. Good letter, good luck with your studies.

I have to confess to still being a work in progress, but don't mind that as much as I once did. I think at my age, 52, I am better equipped to deal with a lot of the stuff that gets thrown at me. I don't always manage and still have meltdowns, but they are far fewer and less intense than they were. ...

Hyper-vigilance and hyper-sensitivity/awareness, for me, are very closely linked and the lines often blur. I, like many others, have always been at the mercy of loud noise and light which has at times been very difficult; and on a number of occasions quite scary. This has led me to be really conscio...

The attributes and abilities that my employers have always valued have stemmed from my Autism - 'out of the box' thinking, creativity, honesty and individualism. These same attributes have also been the reason for me being unable to hold on to those jobs. My current role is different, but as I work ...

Hope the course helps you find employment Androbot01. Interesting article B19, thank you. I shall read the whole piece later this evening when not in work. It makes some very good points. I've always thought of CBT in quite pragmatic terms, it can be one useful tool in a whole tool chest of approach...

Thank you B19, all very interesting links. I will read the article later when I have some quiet time. Zelda, I can sympathise, I have been affected by anxiety all my life. I currently take Citalopram which does seem to have taken the edge off things quite well, that said, it would take some serious ...

I tried to go through my GP and the NHS route. My GP has always been very supportive and I am lucky in that regard. She had me fill out a referral criteria form and scored 10/10 - A* Hurrah! :D She then passed it on to the appropriate unit and I waited, and then I waited a bit more...... Eight weeks...

Hi, I used this organisation http://www.privatepsychologyservices.co.uk/index.html to obtain my diagnosis. As far as I recall, they have offices throughout the UK, albeit I have to confess I don't know if they have staff in Oxford. I paid about £800 but it was a very thorough process and a comprehen...

Male 52 years Diagnosed with AS. I very rarely get any form of relief from pain medication; the exception being Migraleve which does take the sharp edge from the pain but still leave the dull ache underneath. For the main part I drink caffeine and try and get some fresh air; if that fails I simply j...

I stand by my comments 100% and am not especially bothered if you were offended by them. It's childish to go onto a site that has such an anti ASC stance and then get upset by reading posts that are, shock horror, anti ASC.

Either way, I'm done with this thread it's a waste of time and energy.

By clicking the links, all you are doing is adding traffic to their loathsome little 'hatefest'. There are none so blind....etc. Please don't give them the publicity they desire. I responded to the troll when she came on here, but in all honesty, wish I hadn't. Does anybody actually care what a few ...
