Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Ever hear this phrase, " Autistics never lie or engage

I can lie when I feel that it's necessary, but I have great trouble with the daily, expected white lies and untrue programmed responses: "How are you?" is the classic conundrum. I usually don't do them, because they make me uncomfortable. On the "How are you?", I might possibly ask it, if I _do_ car...

I'm a little different (story of my life, actually! :D ) : my daughter thought for a while that I had Asperger's, having heard the symptoms in a class and saying "That's my mom!", and I didn't care much whether I was or not, having gotten through sixty years better than most people (staying alive, n...

L. Holmes, I see no indication whether you're male or female, just that you're 19. If you're genetically susceptible to male pattern baldness, maybe I shouldn't have been so reassuring about your not losing your hair, but anyway, playing with your hair will not affect it. If you're a male, and have ...

I don't know about the stimming matter, but I'm sure you're fine with the amount you're getting on your fingers. I have very thick hair, still do at seventy, always have had, and every time I brush it I have to clean a lot more than a couple of strands off my brush afterward, even when I was very yo...

This is a thread that makes me thank God that I'm so mild. It's also the kind of thread that lets me know for sure that I'm "on the spectrum". All the replies are me, only more so. This may be one of the few things that I'd change about my Asperger's if I could (mostly, I like being me). But it woul...

I think I'm reasonably emotionally mature, but I've always had a temper and get my feelings hurt rather easily. I was never bullied or harassed as a child (well, there were a couple of incidents as a teenage girl, so I can't say "never" -- I suspect all girls go through a bit of harassment from boys...

Well, I've never had a problem with them on my dial-up, but then I've never had a problem with them at all that called for negotiation such as this, contact with a human. I would like to know whether they made the problem right today, including those extra charges. If they didn't, I may never deal w...

Probably a 1 or 2. I'm diagnosed as Asperger's, and as you can see to the left, am 70 years old, so when I was a child, nobody was diagnosing Asperger's or Autism (even as "childhood schizophrenia"). I never got caught being "abnormal" about anything when I was young, though, and whatever was odd wa...

I can't tell you about navigating their site or doing anything there, because I've never done much with them. The things that I pay come out of my credit card, and have never come out of my bank account, for just that reason: I hate to get overdrawn, and at least there's a low limit on my credit car...

Looks to me as if your problem has more to do with adolescence than autism.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy! How have more people not read this?? It states in the first book that she has Asperger's. Thank you, PowerHound! I've been hearing good things about this trilogy for a while -- I read a lot of fiction, and apparently it fits in well with the things I do read...

1.) The Time Quartet (best known for A Wrinkle in Time- which is the first book in the series) implies that two of its main characters (Meg and Charles Wallace) are on the spectrum. Both characters are appear odd, have trouble with other people, and have an above average intellect. It is mentioned ...

USA, Kansas, "Melted Pot Ethnicity", age 69. I was spanked as a child, on the bottom with open hand, until I reached the "age of reason", somewhere about 12, if the offense was bad enough, deliberate and conscious. It was done dispassionately, and "just enough" -- I was never slapped or punched on i...

Well, The Pet Girl of Sakurasou is an anime based off a book where a main character has some Aspie-like characteristics. (Although it's never actually stated, and it's not exactly like the real thing) I don't think any of us are _exactly_ like the "real thing". If you meet one Aspie, you've m...

I was undiagnosed until I was 63, and then it was almost accidental, and not expensive at all. I don't think it's expensive for the kids who were diagnosed at school, either. Anyway, there was no such thing as a diagnosis for Asperger's until I was late middle-aged, and I was clearly not "Autistic",...
