Agreed. The first step in overcoming is to confront the problem. As much as social situations bother me, I don't totally avoid them. However, I routinely struggle to stay involved with groups I am involved with because I feel like an outsider who doesn't belong. I know that's my AS doing the talking...

I believe if you are capable of "adapting" to your condition, there should be no real "age stick." Still, NTs can act like children or old farts depending on their mood. From what I've observed, NTs would act like children if society would tolerate it. Sometimes, I think they are more prone to actin...

If this is in the wrong forum, kindly move it if needed. After 40 years of struggling to get by in life, I learned of AS and was shocked at how perfectly the symptoms match what I've struggled with for as long as I can remember. Still, in spite of the struggle, I managed to teach myself to "fit in" ...

Can you respond in writing and express as one of your first points that you can hear but have difficulty with speech? If you can write, you can compensate, correct?

That can't be much worse than needing a sign language interpreter at the interview.

First thought....I don't know if this is common for all people (or most all) with AS, but do you suffer from "wanderlust." That's the urge to pack up everything and move on after every 4-6 years. If so, I suspect many people with AS struggle to not give in to the impulse to make a fresh start once t...

I just learned that I likely have AS....I based that "self-diagnosis" on the details of AS and how perfectly it matches my life ever since I was a child. I'm 40 now...employment has never been a problem as far as having a check coming in, but the job hunt process is emotionally draining (if not depr...

I understand how you feel. As much as NTs sometimes dispute this to me, I find that over 90% of employment is about making a "connection" with those who make the hiring decision. I've seen it. I've experienced it. I've seen it stated that way in books on how to win a job. No matter how "skilled' you...

Been there, done that, have the scars. I didn't know about AS, nor did anyone, back when I was in. I could be called a "wash out" but the problems I had were heavily AS related. Surrounded by guys but felt utterly alone...unable to build any functional relationship with my unit...felt like I was the...
