I read "2012" and "new age of..." in the same sentence and read no further. In my experience to date, this is a reliable indicator of unalloyed bovine excreta. That is really one of the less important part of his book, but whatever. Thanks for commenting! Well, if he is talking about the coming new...

I have been really impressed with the advice and role playing in Alex's videos--does anyone know of a similar program in the New York area?

Yes. In order for it to be evolution in practice there would need to be some advantage to having Autism or Aspergers that allows us to mate more successfully than everyone else. That is not happening. I think this is a gross oversimplification--all we would need to select for autism would be cases ...

I found this film quite beautiful and deeply moving-- so much so that it brought me to tears, though I am not entirely sure I understand why.

Thank you. I think this will be very helpful to many people and I hope to see much more like it.

Took the AQ test trying to give answers true to my deepest self, rather than the persona I have used to get by for decades.

AQ = 33 or 40 depending on how I interpret the questions.

I had another meeting with the therapist. I may be on or near the spectrum myself. The therapist is now OK with the IEP, and says I can share my experiences with my own quirky life to help my son. He is also suggesting that I may need anti-anxiety meds to help deal with certain issues I have about u...

Thanks for posting these. I have huge difficulty in responding to tests, because I have passed as NT all my life, so it's hard to separate my native, autistic spectrum responses, and the way I've learnt to be, so I could complete each test twice and give completely different responses. I have great...

Thanks again to everyone. It's a strange thing to look at everything that's going on in my boy's life through this lens. I find myself asking is this just one of those things, or is it an expression of ASD? Over the weekend he was hanging out with friends playing video games. All good. Then the want...

Thanks again to everyone for the incredible wisdom you are sharing here. I have been on a bit of an emotional roller coaster with this and the experiences and ideas you are posting are both profoundly moving and truly helpful. I met with the psychotherapist and discussed his concerns. He repeated hi...

Well, I will try it with you. I believe I understand what you are telling me. What you are telling me is words and symbols and their assignments are determined by the person, individual circumstances, environmental factors that are unique. Let's say we have a glass of water. As an analogy it probab...

Communication is hard for everyone. There is a set of techniques originally created by and for NTs (I believe) called "Active Listening" that is meant to reduce the communications failures that are a routine part of dialog between people. A part of active listening is being attentive to nonverbal cu...

Thanks for all the thoughtful replies. On the shoelace front: he already has vans, and we just got him snow boots with bungie laces. I guess it's time to retrofit the sneakers with bungie laces, too. He already has an IEP--he was having trouble writing and worked out an IEP to help with that. The pr...

Thanks, Zodai. By great conversationalist, I mean we can sit and talk for a long time, with conversations that range all over the place--of course, it doesn't help (from an analytical perspective) that I share many of his interests--We talk cosmology, galactic evolution, level design in games... and...

Hi everybody, My 11-year-old son was just diagnosed with AS. I was really surprised by this. I found it hard to believe, but perhaps that is the result of ignorance on my part. I am studying hard, now. He has a group of friends he really gets along well with in the neighborhood, but they don't see t...
