what would they play for the queen if she arrived somewhere or was attending something? I see Handel has already been mentioned, but he wrote a piece called Arrival Of The Queen Of Sheba. I don't know if it is actually used in royal ceremonies anywhere anymore. I'm sure I heard somewhere that Phili...

I used to have this computer game based on a Chinese tile game. The music to that was suitably oriental, and I could listen to it for hours. I always got the impression you could string any sequence of notes together in a Chinese rhythm and style and it would sound ok. I'm probably wrong there. Anyw...

Wicca to Sunni Islam is indeed a strange conversion. I am not religious myself, but in some ways I would like to be. But I am curious about the thinking processes involved in contemporary religious conversions. I imagine in previous centuries a person would convert to an invading power's religion ei...

Bounty hunter #1: You're wanted, Wales.
Josey Wales: Reckon I'm right popular. You a bounty hunter?
Bounty hunter #1: A man's got to do something for a living these days.
Josey Wales: Dyin' ain't much of a living, boy.

My grandfather helped liberate a Concentration camp, I can't remember which one he said he helped liberate, however the point remains it did exist, the Holocaust wasn't made up. If you had been paying attention to the thread, you might have realised that nobody disputes that the Nazis ran concentra...

Macbeth, you have not directly answered a single one of my questions.

1. What was The Holocaust?
2. What makes it unique?
3. What constitutes Holocaust denial?

And

4. What was the gas used in the specially designed "showers"?
5. In which locations were these particular showers used?

Also, lets not forget that extermination took place with a variety of methods, not just purpose-built "showers". Can you elaborate on what other methods there were and how these "showers" worked? ... The "shower" (an apparently genuine shower releasing gas, mostly used on mental patients) ... I can...

Some people look good in moustaches, like Tom Selleck and Teddy Roosevelt. But I cannot imagine myself ever wanting to grow one. I could see myself wanting a beard at some point, but it would probably be Amish-style (no moustache). For that reason I wonder if it's possible to have some sort of opera...

@ Macbeth, you’ve put together a nice long list of ad hoc speculations there (with some ad hominem attacks to pad it out). Let’s look at them more closely. 1) Bullets are not cheap or efficient. Common sense suggests otherwise. Bullets were efficient enough for the Soviets when they massacred about ...

Start by reading the Qur'an. There are various arrangements, not sure if the traditional order is best or one of the amendments. I've never read it myself, but I've heard that traditionally the chapters are arranged by length (longest first, shortest last), which sounds like it makes for a confusin...

Care-face..... Frankly the Germans are bloody lucky that they didn't end up dust at the bottom of a very large crater like the Japanese did. 1.7 million badly treated soldiers is not 6 million plus civilians. You're a proper Nazi apologist/revisionist, you are. Questions... If the Nazis wanted to e...

As self-critical as I am, the sound of me blowing my nose, sniffing and coughing is probably far less irritating to me than it is to other people, and it is far less irritating to me than the sound of other people doing the same.

I think Incense And Peppermints (or at least the intro & the bit 2 minutes in) also inspired Born Of Frustration by James.

Six will suffice. The answer is not unique, but one solution is queens on a1, b3, c5, d7, e4, and h6 It can be done with five. ruveyn In that case, the answer for an n x n board seems to be ... (drumroll) ... [n/2] + 1, where [n/2] is n/2 rounded down to the nearest integer. This works at least for...

What makes a blocked nose worse? Alcohol, among other things. See http://www.patient.co.uk/doctor/Stuffy-Nose-and-Nasal-Obstruction.htm To make a blocked nose better, I usually go for a Vicks inhaler (for a mild case) or a Vicks nasal spray (for a bad case), but sometimes nothing seems to work. :(
