I own a laptop and the heating vent/fan (whatever it's called) is on the left. well most of my school papers sit on that side and I feel it's slightly hot. (as it should be) Should I worry about them catching on fire? I'm not to knowledgeable on computers. I know for heaters keep ALL THINGS away from them but wasn't sure on the heat comeing from the vent on the laptop. Thank You.
I would worry more about things making the laptop overheat than catch on fire. If it's on a desk it should be fine, a flat surface with reasonable space around the laptop is enough, things shouldn't catch fire. If you're worried just move everything slightly? They are designed to be pretty safe.

The ignition point of paper is 842 degrees F, much higher than the hot air being blown out by your fan. At that temperature you would burn yourself severely every time you touched the vent on your computer.
