Figured this would be the best place to put it.

WARNING - Even though on YouTube it is probably safe to watch, I still advise to watch at your own risk.

I'm a little surprised that gave seizures, then again it's not as bad when watching it on YouTube. Anyway, it gave about 700 Japanese people seizures and the episode got banned, obviously it never got dubbed into the English language. (EDIT: Apparentely it did get dubbed in the English language, with the seizure scene slowed down, but the episode still never aired again.)

Apparantely this scene from "The Simpsons" was a parody of it.

Ok, so you have epilepsy, you just recovered from a seizure, and now you're watching a video that has "seizure warning" written in BIG BOLD LETTERS all across it?

Somebody's a glutton for punishment...

I remeber hearing about this ages ago, when I was doing research into a bunch of things including Ash getting a gun pointed at him (didn't get dubbed), Tentacruel destroying a city (got banned after it had already been shown on dub) and the seizer scene from pokemon got banned after lots of people got seizures and flooded the hospitals, funny as another large amount got seizure again after the news decided to replay said scene. By the way I don't think I will watch it I know it is not safe something about the colours from pikachu's electicity having some effect.

It was a little hyped, out of those with epilepsy only a small number are set off by flashing lights.

So that was the scene, eh. I'll have to admit, it did hurt my eyes a bit.

Yeah, it hurt my eyes a little too. But I guess the video quality made it not as bad as what it must have been like on TV. Still, I wonder how it got on TV without anybody even considering the possibility of it giving seizures.

I'm epileptic, and I didn't feel the slightest bit in danger from that. It was a bit too flashy, true, but it wasn't exactly deadly (and I don't have photosensitive epilepsy anyway).

I felt more in danger from Team Rocket :)

I didn't really see much of a similarity in The Simpsons parody, other than the fact it had flashing lights and caused The Simpsons to have seizures. (They must be really vulnerable to getting seizures from that robot show. )

I remembered reading about that back in 1999. However, back then, I didn't know what epilepsy was, so I was like wtf?.

That wasn't bad for me and I have fits. Pokemon is crap, only watched it to see what the fuss was about.

You also know that the number of "victims" was greatly exaggerated, right? Although not intentionally on the part of the media--it was because there was a statement about how anyone who had a seizure because of the show didn't have to attend school the next day. So all of a sudden a ton were reported, and that's the numbers they went from.

But from what I read, it seemed they got the numbers from how many were taken to hospital, which was around 600-700. Of course, what you said sounds likely too.
