Sorry. Didn't mean to be so flip.
I was just thinking of how they blame everything on the parents, even when it makes no sense at all.
In your case, it might not be so absurd.

Thats ok, your probably right with most cases, though even something as minor as an infant being seperated from its mother at birth whilst put in an incubater seems to have a bad effect, seems infants are reallly sensitive to such things.
In my case the Psycotherapist said it was the worst thing he had ever heard, and that was on a council estate built for criminals, I thought he ws going to start crying.
Iam therefore unsure wiether I have Aspergers, or the neglect and abuse stopped the same part of the brain developing that results in Aspergers?, My real Father might be Aspie, whatever, the end result seems to be the same.

I was in my early 50s when I began to realize that my mixed bag of abilities and disabilities had a label, but was 56 before I was DXed.

Same here, except I doubt that I'll ever get a DX.

For myself, the knowledge changed my life and everything suddenly fell into place. I wanted to rush out and tell everyone.
I did want the DX at first. I went through two shrinks, a neurologist, a therapist and a counselor, none of whom knew the first thing about Asperger's. They know nothing and want to know less. I doubt that it's possible for me to get it.
I've since reconsidered the desirability of that DX. If the shrinks don't even get it, society in general won't. Not in my lifetime, at least. My thinking now is that it can't help and can only hurt.
It's probably better to describe only the specific difficulties relevant to a situation, and only to the few people who need to know, such as a boss or a close friend. Like my inability to navigate office politics, or a mild case of face-blindness. The more complicated an issue is, the less I think disclosure would be helpful.

I am 38, I got my diagnosis about 5 years ago, but I first heard I might have it when I was 30. I probably also have Tourettes syndrom.
