Absolutely! I'd like to find some more good ones. I've seen the Star Wars movies, I used to watch the original StarTrek series, and I've been watching the original Battlestar Galactica. Do you know of any other good ones you think I should check out?

Wikipedia has a list of Space Operas.

I'm not sure I would personally consider all of them to be Space Opera, but from their list, I particularly like:

MOVIES
* The War of the Worlds [1953] is a great classic and War of the Worlds [2005] is reasonably good
* Barbarella [1968] might amuse you
* The Predator/Alien/etc. franchises are mostly good...I prefer the special edition/director's cut of each movie except for with Alien
* The Independence Day films are OK
* The Fifth Element [1997]
* The Starship Troopers franchise is especially good for action
* The Chronicles of Riddick franchise has merit, I recommend including Johns' Chase Log, Toombs' Chase Log, and Dark Fury
* WALL-E [2008]—I'm surprised to see it on the list but I think it is one of the very best Science Fiction films
* John Carter [2012] is, I think, better than its reputation suggests
* Ender's Game [2013] is OK

TV
* Lost in Space [2018–2021]—the unrelated movie is tolerable and the also unrelated 1965–1968 TV series is not
* Blake's 7 [1978–1981] is...um...memorable
* The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy [1981] is very good...unlike the 2005 movie (the books are very good and the 1978 radio series is best!)
* Red Dwarf [1988–?] is great fun!
* Babylon 5 [1993–1998], though properly interleaving the associated movies and spin-offs would be a challenge...and while it is limited by the TV special effects available at the time, it is some of the best science fiction ever on screen
* Lexx [1996–2002]—the first season is dark, strange, and perverse...subsequent seasons get stranger and weirder and funnier, while staying dark—while watching it, there will likely be times you say "Did they really just do that!!"
* Farscape [1999–2003] Outstanding!
* Firefly [2002–2003] but watch the episodes in the correct order, not the broadcast order—a contender for best live TV science fiction series!—and then watch the movie Serenity [2005]
* The Expanse [2015–2022] Outstanding!
* The Orville [2017–2022] fun and good TV Science Fiction

Of course, there is no warranty on this. It is just my opinion. Your tastes might vary.

I love The Fifth Element! As for the other ones, I'll definitely take a look into them!

Is the grand visual picture aspect part of the appeal? And it sounds like you are not specifically looking for hard science fiction?

Perhaps that might bias toward:

MOVIES
* The War of the Worlds [1953] is a great classic and War of the Worlds [2005] is reasonably good
* Barbarella [1968] might amuse you
* The Predator/Alien/etc. franchises are mostly good...I prefer the special edition/director's cut of each movie except for with Alien

I like both hard sci-fi and the visually grand stuff. I'll be reading Michael Crichton novels one moment, then watching movies like Flash Gordon and Starcrash the next.

It's been a while since I've seen it. I remember the plot being very complex.

From my perspective, one of the best Sci-Fi movies ever made was the 1956 film called "Forbidden Planet". In a way it contained the ultimate monster.
