Hi all.

My name is ***. ** from **. After years of misery and feeling different, ensuing visits to doctors, psychiatrists and psychotherapists who were all pretty usless and eventually having to attempt to self manage myself with lots of isolation and the removing of artificial stimulants from my diet (yep folks...i'm one of those funtastic vegan tee-total type people hehe).....i'm still pretty lost with it all.

Never managed to get a diagnosis of anything...not that i'm a hypochondriac in search of a label..if anything i'm the opposite...being labelled tends to terrifies me.
My pyschotherapists main notion was the idea was that i used big words to distance myself from people. Needless to say the 'big' word i used had less letters in it than his alternative...not that he even bothered to give me his professional opinion
but i don't think i'd have paid it much heed after that....I'm sure if i had a posh accent the words i use wouldn't be an issue.

I went back to my doctor who prescribed me different meds...i asked him how he could prescribe me medication if he couldn't say what he thought was wrong with me.

Since then I haven't bothered with a doctor, stopped taking any meds.
Have issues as regards noise, light, being touched, people speaking at me. i suffer from
involuntary twitches and noises and also have fits when my senses feel overloaded :(

I find it easy to make aquaintances but difficult to make or maintain deeper friendships. I've just realised i haven't seen my best two friends in months.
My gf says she thinks the world of me, loves me, will do anything for me...but i feel like she is speaking a foreign language to me.
I find it difficult to connect or feel what she is saying and i get frustrated because i want to.

I'm always in denial that anything is up...that i'm perfectly fine..that its the world thats at fault and if it would just work fine i would too.

But when i look at what i've just written (never mind the whole story)..it seems pretty clear that all isn't quite right lol

Aspergers/ASD was mentioned to me by someone who had witnessed a lot of my behaviour and it seems to fit a lot of my feelings and behaviours.

In the real world i enjoy singing with my band, painting, ZX Spectrum games, watching Man City, getting tattoed, reading Albert Camus books and lots of other vaguely random things.

Sorry for the scattergun approach to this introduction....hiya everybody :)

Hi welcome to WP. I notice that you are a Man City supporter. May seem like a silly question but do you come from Manchester or elsewhere in the UK?

I notice you are in a band, what sort of music is it and what part do you play in the band? My boyfriend is in a band heavily influenced by the likes of Nine Inch Nails and heavy metal.

What tattoos do you have? I have a chinese symbol 'woman' on my right shoulder and my boyfriend has a picture of a skull and 'Metallica' on his.

It's good that you have a girlfriend that is willing to try and understand, my boyfriend does the same with me which is cool.

Hi zastoi,

I'm from Wales. I don't think Asperger's is as well recognised/diagnosed in the UK
as it is in say, the US, but I think the quality of the NHS services and specialists do vary around the UK. Having said that, there are quite a few peeps from the UK here, with varying experiences of healthcare professionals. If I went to my doc to ask to see a specialist, he would tell me to go take a paracetamol, lol.

when you say "i suffer from
involuntary twitches and noises and also have fits when my senses feel overloaded" do you mean that you have actual fits, as in epilepsy, or a general feeling of being overwhelmed - 'shut-down' I call it. This sounds like it could be the AS 'meltdown'.

Welcome to WP, I hope you enjoy the forum.

sorry for the slow reply..im in work atm..gotta love a job which lets me get online tho hehe :)

fiz - .i am indeed a Manc. Live in town atm...where abouts from Manc do you hail from?

My current band are kinda going for a hair-metal punk thing. Backyard Babies, Velvet Revolver, WASP, Buckcherry etcetc. I'm this singer..i leave instruments for those with talent lol

NIN are very ace indeed :) your boyfs band sounds interesting :)

Tattoos are good...I have various random tatts...all that look really stylish but have really lame and bizzare 80s connotations lol ... i have a Duranx2 themed tatt on my neck for example...stars on my hand/finger...Top Gun/Camus/Diego Maradona are amongst my other postmodern themes hehe

Yepyep i guess we are lucky that we have people who try to understand us :D

--------

Hi Starr,

Spent quite a few years living in Wales meself...went to secondary school in Anglesey *shudders at the memory*

sounds like your doc went to the same medical school as mine lol

ummmm....i'm unsure of the difference with my fits..i find them difficult to describe. My eyes roll into the back of my head and my eyelids blink like a million times really fast, i drool (yum..delightful) and my body spasms like mad . I'm always able to know when they are coming so its not like i'm a danger to myself. Can't even figure out if i lose consciouness properly...but i'm certainly disorientated after.

thanks for the welcome people..much appreciated :)

He will be made up lol. My taste in music is kinda similar to his so hence me and him get on really well, amongst other things of course. I will drop you a PM in a bit :)

Hi Tim. My name is Lee. I am 12 years old, and have AS-HFA. I have been AS-HFA for 6 years, and was diagnosed at age 2. I have been experienced with Autism for 7 years, now, and I started out by asking questions to my Special Ed. teacher, and Mom. I am almost through with my Special Ed. courses, because my sensory issues, emotions, social skills, etc. have improved a lot, but regardless, I'll have Autism forever. If you have any questions about Autism, or things of that sort, email me at [email protected], or send me a PM. If you have an MSN email address, IM me at [email protected].

Hi, Tim!

Would you say that you have been around people who knew what they were talking about or not?

Welcome to the forum!

Hi!

Well, I wasn't sure if you had been around people who knew what they were talking about because you have not gotten a formal diagnosis yet.

Your information in your introductory thread made me think that.
