I went through this process as well. I self-identified around 2016 and approached my doctors (GP, psychologist, psychiatrist, neurologist) in 2017. I was fortunate that my wait was only six months because I went through my University connections to find a specialist in female ASD. She only assesses women so I suppose her wait-list might have been half as long? I was assessed ASD Level 2 (Moderate) and many co-morbid conditions. It may seem like a long wait for you but spend your time reading and researching as much as you'd like, and don't be afraid to self-identify in the meantime.
For the record I had 48/50 on those questions but I know that even 38 is quite significant.
Good luck and welcome aboard!
