i have been back for about a day now, but to be honest, i am begining to regret it...
all my old friends are gone, and i cant seem to make any new ones on here... i know i've been away for awhile but it all seems so different, and im begining to wonder why i should bother coming back now 
anyone give me a good reason?

Welcome back, you were here when I first joined a year ago and yes, it has changed quite a bit so I think its a question of deciding why you came and see if any of those reasons still apply, if not, maybe find something new you like about WP.
As for friends, well, there are tons of new ones to be made
Give it a chance, its always a bit disconcerting when things change but I change is inevitable, maybe those changes wouldn't have seemed so dramatic if you had known about them before.
Anyway, hope you enjoy Wales and look forward to seeing you when you get back.
