My name is Ted. I'm 28 years old and was diagnosed with AS in the mid 1990's. I work in a college library.

I know many with AS have adopted the term as a form of pride, but I consider the term "aspie" offensive. You wouldn't call call someone with Down's syndrome a "downie" would you?

Yeah I can see your point of view as well on labels. One of my officials, ok, let's go with two, is Bipolar and ADHD, there are more. Now Bipolar or manic/depressive has had that label dragged throw the mud for so long it's like give me a damn break already. I'm not like the sensationalized versions at all. So in that sense, I have Bipolar pride. ADHD hasn't had the time that manic/depressive has had in all forms of mud slinging. So in that sense, I don't go around telling people I have any label at all, but here it's a bit different. Some have a loss of self esteem, as for an example, and hence the need for a pride.

Would I call someone with Down's Syndrome a Downie? No I would use thier first name or what ever they might like.
