Do you have a child with Pervasive Developmental Disorder and hyperactivity?

Yale Child Study Center is conducting a research study to test the effectiveness of a non-stimulant medication, extended-release guanfacine (Intuniv®), for children with PDD and hyperactivity.

Eligible children are at least 5 but younger than 14 years old, with autism, Asperger’s, or PDD-NOS, and clinically significant hyperactivity, currently medication-free or on ineffective medication.

Guanfacine is that blood pressure medication that's prescribed in conjunction with ADHD meds in order to improve the ADHD med's performance. My son and I both take Strattera and Guanfacine. I've never heard it used as a primary med for hyperactivity or PDD-NOS for that matter. How does it help?
