RPGs, turn-based strategy, real-time strategy, first-person shooters (I'm drifting from this, though), and a lot of indie games I'm not sure how to categorize, like Beat Hazard, Plants vs Zombies, and World of Goo. I also really liked space fighter combat simulators, but those don't seem to exist so much anymore (Freespace, Freespace 2, X-Wing, TIE Fighter, X-Wing Alliance).

In terms of franchises, I've really enjoyed the Neverwinter Nights games, The Elder Scrolls, Fallout 1-3, the old Infinity Engine AD&D games, Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo, Galactic Civilizations, Master of Orion, Civilization, Command & Conquer, Dawn of War, Doom, Half-Life, Bioshock. I really wanted to enjoy Elemental: War of Magic, but I have had a lot of trouble getting into it. Same with Sins of a Solar Empire.

Wait... video game genre? I'll play anything... but where is the car combat genre? it's like everyone always forgets about it.

Car combat is my favorite! well... that and creative or simulations. but almost anything is good.

I really love survival horror games. Some of my favorites were the Resident Evil series, Silent Hill series, Fatal Frame series, Haunting Ground, Siren, Rule of Rose, etc.

I love games that make you feel like you're playing in a horror movie where the protagonist has to survive against powerful monsters that want to kill you in gruesome ways, and as you explore the setting of the game you uncover clues about what's going on as your character tries to escape.

First person shooter is my first favorite, then third person shooter, I like hack and slash games and when they were big space games like Wing Commander and Freespace. I really wish space games would come back. I also like action RPG's like Mass Effect because now its more of a third person shooter but I can't wait until Mass Effect 3 comes out in 2012!

Maybe in the 90's.

I would consider GTA action/adventure. And games like Crash Bandicoot platformers.

Same here. I love the combination. But FPS gets my vote when choosing between FPS and RPGs.

Platformer, action-adventure, fighting, shoot em ups, RPGs, racing.

Platformers are always first in my heart, though.

The Super Mario games would be considered both of those genres, and so would the Ratchet and Clank series. Those are just a couple of many examples.

I voted RTS

I totally love the competitive aspect that comes with it, the thrive to constantly improve and get better. There is also a great community behind the RTS i play (Starcraft 2)

I still wouldn't class them as the same genres. There arealso MMOs with FPS elements but they're certainly not the same.

Definitely RPG, its like watching a movie, and you get to control how it plays out, at least in some games.
