I never really know what to build in creative mode! I was wondering what all of you like to build, or the coolest/best things you've built?

I mostly just build practical things in Survival... oh I'll try to make them look decent enough, but yeah, if they dont have a REASON to be built, they dont get built. Creative mode just puts me to sleep.

A theme park with working rides, restaurants, bathrooms, stands, pathways. Hotels with pools, bathrooms complete with turn-on-able showers, kitchens, bedrooms, outdoor movie theaters, saunas, playgrounds. Farms containing all the breedable animals. It began to get too big for the Xbox 360 version map size though and demolishing good rides is frowned upon.

I always make the mistake of getting super ambitious and doing an epic tower that goes all the way up to the clouds...so I end up never finishing them. :x

Generally, on my friends' server, my initial goal is a functioning energy plant; as low-maintinence as can be had. Lately my standard procedure has been using a Forestry multifarm and a Railcraft steam boiler in conjunction to produce energy. A Minechem chemical decomposer/synthesizer bank reassembles wood into coal and water. The water gets fed back into the farm/boiler system, and the coal gets fed into the boiler. Steam from the boiler drives a steam turbine to produce energy running the farm and support systems. Excess saplings are processed into dirt for the farm, the excess of which gets mixed with sand and niter (ground from excess sand) to produce more fertilizer. All in all the only input strictly needed is steel for new turbine rotors. Everything else required by the farm can be had from processing its own outputs.

Later, I look to amassing Mystcraft pages to make a perfect void dimension, where I can build a 'space station', though I haven't gotten much done with that before the world gets reset for this reason or that.

Right now the server isn't running, and we're waiting on the Thermal Dynamics mod to release to add back transport ducts and conduits again. Kind of annoying that CoFH took them out of Thermal Expansion like that.

I try to but 1. I'm not super inventive 2. I lose interest in building something that will take forever and no one will ever see.

tried building a nation on pc but the people kept reseting world every 2 months . its like ugh. why bother.

I know what you mean, I'm mostly creating practical things. I'd sometimes create a large structure to give the specific base some character, and even then it'll have the practical use of guiding me to the base when I'm out in the wild (such as a beacon tower).

Has anyone else tried survival mods like Enviromine?

That's mostly what I do too, it's really good though playing in survival mode because that's when all the ideas come to mind. Born out of necessity as they say. Always working on how to improve stuff. Very fun.

I love the whole ride thing, that's awesome, and it's fun to go around in a minecart, they're so fast! Thanks for all the answers.

I build colorful tree houses, no two are alike due to the trees.

One interesting thing to build is an anti-AFK machine, like this one:

It will make the water flow keep moving you indefinitely, preventing multiplayer servers from kicking you due to being idle for too long. Or, you can build it in singleplayer and watch your character move around on their own if you are bored.

I have built a setting that I have had in my head for a story I have been writing, allows me to imagine it a little easier when I am writing about specific parts. It has been a fun castle to make which has had me actually come up with ideas of more parts I did not think of before I started making it. I can see how different areas would flow together and able to reference it when needed. I also plan to include more settings from my story if needed, already making a temple, which took quite a long time to just put dirt blocks over what was previously ocean.

I love building redstone contraptions.
Once I created a 8 segment digit display with redstone lamps. And then spent a lot of time trying to improve it.
I had plan on making a calculator, but the project was too big and I lost interest in Minecraft while doing it. I might go back to it one day.
I also like creating hidden doors with password, traps and all sorts of small systems.

I love redstone :P

Five months? Impressive! 8O I rarely build pixel art and and my creations are fairly simple. I built a Nyan Cat (not very original, I know) and Captain Viridian from VVVVVV on my server. I also have a dedicated pixel art world, but it's pretty much empty at the moment.
