Obviously a lot of us here have our own views of the world etc etc etc. How about we all join up in this old game that's still maintained and see how our countries do?

It's pretty basic. You fill out the basic country stuff, answer some political questions then you start settling the debates. Like I just created my country and my first issue is:

In response to a slow news week, certain highbrow newspapers have stirred up the debate over voluntary vs compulsory voting.

The Debate

"Compulsory voting makes about as much as sense as having the death penalty for attempted suicide," says civil rights activist Billy Mistletoe. "You can't force people to be free! You can only give them the choice. Besides, if all those derelicts who can't be bothered to get off their butts once every few years voted, who would they elect? I shudder to think."

"It's not contradictory at all," argues political commentator Al Mistletoe. "The fact is, if not everyone votes, the outcome isn't truly representative. Some groups--like elderly gun nuts--vote more often than others. That's why we always end up with such terrible politicians."

"This raises an interesting issue," says Zeke Gutenberg, your brother. "And that is: why do we need elections, anyway? Seems to me it would be much simpler if you just decided what was right, and did it. Wouldn't that save everyone a lot of time?"
------------

Edit: I must say that this is kinda frustrating because I actually had the voting debate recently and I think that voting shouldn't be mandatory but that the electoral college should be removed and simply count the people who actually vote. You'd probably remove a lot of power from a place like Cali that way (not many people actually vote) and it'd potentially give more power to smaller states where there may be a more diligent voting population. So I guess I'm going with that it isn't mandatory.

If I'm not mistaken, we can make our own region if we get enough people together.

Mine:

Quote:
The Republic of Thelandofpizza is a fledgling, devout nation, notable for its strong anti-business politics. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 5 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The enormous government is mainly concerned with Religion & Spirituality, although Education and Social Welfare are secondary priorities. The average income tax rate is 30%. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Cheese Exports.

Crime is a problem, and the police force struggles against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Thelandofpizza's national animal is the timbit, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the meat.

I'm not religious at all, but people in Thelandofpizza are anyhow.

Quote:
The United Socialist States of Eristi is a fledgling, safe nation, remarkable for its devotion to social welfare. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 6 million are free to do what they want with their own bodies, and vote for whoever they like in elections; if they go into business, however, they are regulated to within an inch of their lives.

The government -- a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked, liberal, socially-minded morass -- devotes most of its attentions to Social Welfare, with areas such as Law & Order and Religion & Spirituality receiving almost no funds by comparison. The average income tax rate is 43%, but much higher for the wealthy. A large private sector is led by the Information Technology industry, followed by Gambling and Door-to-door Insurance Sales.

Voting is voluntary. Crime is well under control. Eristi's national animal is the platypus, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the dollar.

Eristi is ranked 668th in the region and 14,976th in the world for Nicest Citizens.

^^ Whheee, thankee skafather84.

The Nomadic Peoples of Ameta is a fledgling, environmentally stunning nation, renowned for its devotion to social welfare. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 5 million love a good election, and the government gives them plenty of them. Universities tend to be full of students debating the merits of various civil and political rights, while businesses are tightly regulated and the wealthy viewed with suspicion.

The government -- a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked, socially-minded morass -- devotes most of its attentions to Social Welfare, with areas such as Law & Order and Defence receiving almost no funds by comparison. The average income tax rate is 39%, but much higher for the wealthy. A large private sector is led by the Basket Weaving, Information Technology, and Furniture Restoration industries.

Crime is relatively low. Ameta's national animal is the cat, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the pixie.

The Principality of Kailedonia

I don't know whether I'm going to keep civil freedoms and democratic options high, or whether I'm going to force the proles to do sensible things for their own good. I'm not modelling it on my own political views, per se. I'm just going to mess around with it until I get an interesting result.

It could very well end up a benevolent dictatorship.

How long does a dictatorship remain benevolent?

About the proles: give them something to eat, something to drink and something to schtupp and they are happy proles.
