I said I was not going to debate divine entities, and I won't. I am hoping to collect some data on belief systems and handling of new data. I trust other theistical types will handle anything posted here with respect and merely as data:

SO: THOUGHT EXPERIMENT

The question: for any atheists willing to participate with a gyuarantee of no argument from me:

If you had an experience equivalent to that claimed for Moses at the burning bush, or whatr we are told befell Paul on his way to Damascus, how would it impact you? How would you react?

If you do not know the stories, you can check Exodus 3 1-6 and Acts 9:3-8.

Note - pure open question, no alternatives to choose from.

I'd assume I was on drugs or having some kind of weird, realistic dream

Well, I'd think I was hallucinating. I mean, I believe I can hallucinate. Even further, this wouldn't be the first time I had felt I was experiencing something impossible, just the strongest variation of that in that instead of emotional impressions, I would actually have a full-blown audio and visual experience.

Even further, I would likely start engaging in reality testing much more strongly in the wake of such an experience. This includes testing the hallucination for coherence with known realities, but also, possibly testing more other things as well.

I'd go into a panic, and consider having myself committed.

I would be wary of potential fraudster / prankster behind it. Then I would worry about the possibility that extraterrestrials are behind it as a plot to manipulate us all.

I would assume a neurological dysfunction.

Do you have a top that will either keep spinning or fall over?

Okay - you could fix it by revealing that you are actually an alternative persona for Sand.

That would both disappoint and shock - two for the price of one.

I have seen many bushes burn. None of them made me think of anything divine.

Did something in the burning bush talk to you?

I have one that does both at the same time but no one else ever sees it.

I think he'd have to plead the fifth on that question.
