Suppose, for example, there really was such a thing as The Code of Chivalry. Suppose, furthermore, that it really was as Noble and Chivalrous as one would like to believe. Well, the Bourgeois, the rising Merchant Class of the Urban areas, would have had to destroy it. After all, said Bourgeois would desire a new form of warfare, a Bourgeois form of warfare-- indeed, what today would be termed Total War!

The Pike Men would literally knock the mounted, armored warriors off of their high horses to achieve precisely this aim. And, Total War-- ironically and absurdly enough-- would be picked up by Communists and Nazis alike, both of which hate the Bourgeois. Mind you, I do not like Modern Warfare at all. It is a thought experiment.

:D I am not sure why I love these Historical Controversies, but I do. Still, I also find it quite fascinating to think about, but these days, and ever since The French Revolution, we have been living in the Age of Egalitarianism. After all, though the Soviet Communists and the Chinese Communists, as well as Communists generally, arguably carried out many, many of the very same types of military atrocities and crimes against Humanity, usually associated with the National Socialists (The "Nazis", as they are called), said Communists always did so in the name of Egalitarianism of all things. Now, I suppose the National Socialists, and the Axis Fascist movement generally, were composed of Ancient People, living in the Modern World. Hence, that would offer an explanation as to why Fascists, including National Socialists, are so much more hated and dreaded than Communists are.

Indeed, neither Adolf Hitler nor Benito Mussolini would have been too out of place in either Ancient Greece or Ancient Rome. They used Modern War machinery to fight in what were basically Ancient tactics and strategies.

I believe in much of the Code of Chivalry on paper.

What I don't believe in is how it has manifested itself, at times, throughout history.

The stories of Knights in shining armor are sort of interesting.
