There is always going to be bias in reporting, however I've noticed that during my lifetime with the increasing popularity of the internet there seems to be decreasing popularity of news media outlets. It's easier to dismiss the attempted spin and rumor-mongering of media outlets when it is easier to compare reports. If correct, I would consider that to be beneficial. However, are there any methods of reporting news that people accept without much thought, similar to that which led to panic by the broadcast of The War Of The Worlds, in use today? The reporting of "facts" now being through various methods would tend to decrease the likelihood of people taking what they hear for granted, but are there any sources of information which people generally still do take at face value?

Take in as many new's sources as possible of any kind, blogs, videos, comercial sites. From every political affiliation, then start cutting out sites that just make up s**t, compare stories between the sites.
